Is there any fact to the notion that if you are being robbed at an A.T.M. you should enter your pin number backwards and that will alert the police?

Yes that is correct, what happens is you input your pin in the wrong way round ie if your pin is 1234 and you input it as 4321 you still actually get the money as well but as the money is dispensed an automatic alarm is triggered ( silent) and then that informs the police that something is wrong at that bank ( not the cashpoint as such ) hope this helps

no, there was a rumor that typing in a certain combination would alert the authorities, all untrue. the "bank" does not know your PIN. It is electronic and encrypted.
