Question about Crafts & Hobbies

Open Question

I just bought a 1033 transformer and an A.T.S.F. 4-4-2 Columbia locomotive #8644. Goes forward great but won't reverse. Is problem likely to be the engine or transformer?

SOURCE: lionel o guage santa fe steam engine locomotive won't reverse even with reverse switch on?

You do not specify which Santa Fe steam engine you have, but I am going to guess it's the Santa Fe RTR O27 set...

Here's a link to the manual for it. Go to page 9, read the last paragraph on the page. It may be the answer to your problem

Lionel train problems

Check to be sure that the reverse unit is on. This may be a lever on the top of the locomotive or a slide switch under the engine. If that doesn't solve the problem, you will need to take the engine to a service center to be repaired. A list of service centers can be found at Lionel.com

Pony size Troy-Bilt 30 years old\r\nQuestion; Can motor be replaced?

Yes but unless you purchase a engine with the two shafts, one for forward and one for reverse, you will lose your reverse. If you don't mind not having a reverse just go to a nearby Harbor Freight store or order on line a Greyhound 6.5 HP engine. these are Honda clones and run great they just had a sale here in Columbia Mo. and it was on sale for $99.99. I have used these on many of the Troy Bilt Horse tillers and they work great. They have metric threads and you may not be able to use your throttle cable but for the price you can't beat it.

I am trying to hook up a Lionel 1033 transformer to my Christmas train. What terminal goes to what? I want my old 2026 to smoke and my 6446W to whistle.

I have the original Instructions for Operating the 1033(written in 1953) - the second paragraph of the "How To Connect Transformer" reads as follows: The "Multi -Control" transformers listed in this leaflet have four binding posts located on the top of the transformers. Of these, "A-U" and "B-U" combinations furnish variable voltage for the track. The control arm of the transformer simultaneously regulate the voltage output of both the "A-U" and the "B-U" combinations. The transformer nameplate indicates the voltage ranges of these two combinations. The "A-U" combination supplies any voltage from 5 to 16 volts. The B-U combination has voltage from 0 to 11 volts. In selecting the proper range of voltage for your particular outfit, try the lower "B-U" combination first. If the maximum train speed is not satisfactory, then try the "A-U" posts.

To paraphrase the "How to Connect Accessories" section: accessories work best with fixed voltage - these voltages are obtained from the following pairs of output binding posts: "A-B" 5 volts; "B-C" 11 volts and "A-C" 16 volts.
Hope this helps, Mark

Forward runs good but reverse dosnt work so good unless you give it a little push but if you slow it down again it dosnt work so good again even siezes. help

Hi,
You will need to perform the following :
1) clean any and all electrical pick ups (with power off)
2) check, clean, and re lubricate gearing on locomotive
3) check switch on fwd and rev for contact and dust.
4) please note that sometimes this is a really good excuse to buy a new locomotive or upgrade to a BIGGER set.

Hope This Helps,
