Question about Vizio VO47L 47 in. LCD TV

1 Answer

I have a vizio 47 in tv. It was originally a preowned model. The picture and sound will work for a little while than randomly the picture will turn to all weird neon colors and bars and the sound will go haywire making a loud buzzing/humming sound. I have been told that it is probable the main board and that I can replace it for about 90 bucks. Does this sound that it is a main board issue or something else and does it at all seem worth trying to replace? Thanks for the suggestions

If you feel comfortable opening the TV and know where not to touch, it seems reasonable to replace the board. On the other hand the new HDTVs are really coming down in price. Tough call. In my case my 32" WEGA failed (also a board) . I replaced it with a 32" LCD set.

Black screen with sound

My 47" LCD Smart T.V. was working fine last night. I got up this morning and I have sound but no picture. The VIZIO icon lights up as usual but I get no picture, only sound. From the time I turned it on, nothing appeared on the screen. I have already tried unplugging it for a while and still nothing.

Solutions (2) Best Solution That little fella is only turned off by unplugging it. If all those little lights in America could be turned off we could do with one less nuclear power plant. If unplugging it is not an option, my wife's solution is to cover it with a piece of black tape.

remove all screws on the back of the tv, carefully pull off back cover. you will see two circuit boards one on the left (Power) and one on the right (Video) on the Video board there is a small plug on the right side with a yellow, white and red wire going into a small white connector. the red wire is what controls the orange light on the front. now that the plug is pulled turn it over and you should see a small white plastic piece that holds each metal connector on the end of the wires in. pry this piece of plastic up for the red wire and pull at the same time, the wire will come out of the connector. now tape the metal connector with electrical tape and tuck it behind something or tape it to the chassis. plug your connector back in. put the rear cover back on. now your tv will only show the vizio logo in white when you have the power on. If you wish to disable the logo for both orange and white just disconnect the white plug completely.

Vizio vo47L 47" LCD. No

0ne of 3 has failed:
(in order of probability):

1. Backlight inverter
2. Power Supply
3. Backlight

More specifically on #1 and #2 - capacitors either bulging, leaking, or exploded.

Please seek the expertise of an experienced TV repair technician - as they contain potentially lethal voltages that must be properly discharged before work can begin.

Vizio 47" lcd no picture no sound has power

this could be one of two problem. first, check if you have back light. If you do then the problem is with the M/B. Second, if you don't have back light then the inverter is bad and needs to be replace.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
