Question about Jandy Pool & Spa

Can the pool overflow from rain?

Water level is rising. Should the pump kick in on it's own, or do we need to do something to get extra water out before it overflows?

A pool will over flow in the rain, the pool pump is only for circulating water not for draining overflow , you can go to a local pool supply and buy a pump to hook to a garden hose and drain it partially, be aware that the pump runs on electric power and you want to be careful not to drain the pool below the skimmer level or you will end up replacing the pool pump motor

Pool overfilled, I thought because of rain. This wknd I backwash drained it to the proper level. 2 days later it was overfilled again...no rain. I don't know, but think I have an auto fill.

look for a smaller cover and open it up until you find something that looks like this one or even one that could look like a toilet fill... I've seen it. Thats the auto fill and they're relatively cheap, but to save you some money look for a little outlet (1-2" hole) in the pool right near the auto fill and plug it up with a rag. if water starts coming from the top of the fill area then it could be the filler or the fitting it connects to. Once you've determined if its the auto fill then shut the water off, most times it can be shut off with the landscaping but not always, you might need to shut off the water supply for a bit. then it just counter-clock screw out put in the new one and play with the levels you want it at. DONE!

Will adding acid to pool water kill my salt level

Hi, this is John the Hayward tech. The only way salt leaves the pool is from splash out, filter back washing and any other means by which the water is deluted causing the salt reading to reduce. In some areas large amounts of rain will cause the level to lower. Adding pool acid will not affect the salt level.

Green

Green is an indicator of metal in the water or no sanitizer. Check your sanitizer level and have your pool service company check for metal. Could be very high acid level ... eating at anything copper in your system.

Our water level in our pool dropped over a foot overnight

Depending on the size of your pool that's allot of water, check your switching valve it might have a bad gasket OR if your pool has trees near it roots can break the plumbing
You will need to keep a eye on your pump now it may have ran dry and damaged the shaft seal, look for a wet spot under the pump if you see one the shaft seal MUST BE CHANGED ASAP. failure to do so will cause water to leak into the motor and damage the bearing and as a bonus the bad bearing will cause the motor to consume large amounts of electricity, easy fix. I only charge $20 to install a shaft seal, seal included "most pumps" (if u bring in pump) use only quality seal there are seals available on Ebay like these... please PRIME THE PUMP AFTER ANY PUMP REPAIR !

I believe our pump's motor got burned up due to a dirty filter or the water level being too high for the return. We've had a lot of rain in the past few days & I had not drained some of the...

First, what makes you think that a dirty filter or the water level being too high burned out the motor?
You have to start by figuring out what the problem is. Is the pump old? Did water get inside the motor? Is the power to the pump motor adequate.
My pool pump is a plug in and my hoses connect with hose clamps.
Is yours hardwired directly into the pump?
How is the pool connected to the pump, hoses or hard pipe?
If it is hard wired and piped, you will probably have to pay a tech.

To drain the pool, you have to change the position of your "backwash" valve.
Shut off the pump.
See if there is a DRAIN position on the backwash valve.
You could probably use the BACKWASH position, too, only water will go through the filter and then out the normal backwash pipe.
Turn the pump on briefly to see which pipe water comes out. Shut the pump.
Put discharge hose on that pipe.
Turn pump on until pool is low enough.
Return backwash valve to filter position.

Keeps saying low salt level

I would say the rain is diluting the system at this point, or the system sensor has gone out. But if you had heavy rains I would be looking at that idea first.

thanks for using Fixya.

Pool about to overflow

Syphon it (see link). It will be easier if it is an above ground pool.
