Try a known good keyboard. If that fails load linux in dvd only mode and try that. It will not change your hard drive.

I tried changing keyboards, nothing. when I pluged it back in totaly dead, had to plull off jumper, now its running ( fans) that is and performing automatic IDE configuration. [Invalid configuration info...

Many motherboards have a "clear CMOS jumper" capability. There are 3 pins on the Mobo and the jumper is put on pins 1 - 2 for normal operation and moved to position 2 - 3 to clear CMOS memory. (It may be the other way around on some Mobo's). Your PC will oly work with the jumper in the normal position. If you temoraily moved it to the clear position (and then put it back to normal) you erased your cmos memory which remembers the date & time, hard drive cofiguration and many other importnt parameters which need to be set correctly in order for your PC to run properly. If you have the manual that came with your motherboard, it explains how to go into cmos setup and set these parameters. If you do not have this manul, navigate through the menus and choose "default (or optimal) bios settings" Then set your date and time, choose save bios settings and exit bios setup. Hopefuly your computer will start up OK now. If not, you should find a PC technician to help you.

My dc7100 sff when turned on gives 9 audible beeps that repeat 4 X Then continuously 9 silent beeps over and over Any idea what the issue is?

Here is the solution:

Beeps 9 times:- System not fetching code Microcode

"update" else replace the system board

That deals with your bios.

I would try resetting the CMOS first.

More on fetching code:

To clear CMOS:

<quote>

Clearing CMOS*
The computer's configuration (CMOS) may occasionally be corrupted. If it is, it is necessary to clear the CMOS
memory using switch SW50.
To clear and reset the configuration, perform the following procedure:
1. Prepare the computer for disassembly.
ã„CAUTION: The power cord must be disconnected from the power source before pushing the Clear CMOS
Button (NOTE: All LEDs on the board should be OFF). Failure to do so may damage the system board
2. Remove the access panel.
3. Press the CMOS button located on the system board and keep it depressed for 5 seconds.
4. Replace the access panel.
5. Turn the computer on and run F10 Computer Setup (Setup-utility) to reconfigure the system.
*When the CMOS button is pushed or the jumper is removed, both the power-on password and the setup password

I have an Averatec 3200 xp home edition. It was a gift. All that came with it was the power cord. How do i reset factory settings?

If laptops do not come with an installation disc, sometimes there is a setting in the BIOS which will allow reseting to factory settings. When the computer is first turned on, it will usually provide a specific key to access the BIOS or setup screen.

Necesito formatear mi maquina es una laptop averatec 3200 solo que cuando quiero entrar al bios tiene password y no puedo quitarlo

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

Lost Installing CD cant install to windows XP my computer is averatec 3200 series

here they are , I could not find free cd:

Averatec 3200 XP Windows Driver Recovery CD Restore DiskThis is an automated 3200 XP drivers recovery cd. The 3200 drivers are supplied in a special windows friendly format. This means that your Averatec 3200 XP Laptop will automatically find and install all the drivers for your system, with hardly any user interaction. If you have installed a new windows operating system and half of your Laptop just wont work (with errors like no sound no internet or bad graphics) then this is exactly what this CD has been designed to fix repair. You can also use this CD Disk If you just need to return you.....lots more averatec 3200-series drivers information here.

I need someone to explain to me where I might find the hard reset switch for the bios on my averatec 3200

Open up the inside of the notebook, and you should see a watch style battery. Just remove it while the notebook is turned off and unplugged, and that will reset the BIOS for you.

Suddenly my Averatec won't start

It could be your Power Supply or your CMOS Battery is dead. For Power Supply, you can test by try to connect your Power Cord without battery to see for any PowerPush. If it is still not on then you can check your CMOS Battery for any failure by test the good one from other similar laptop since you had two. I hope this help.

Where is the cmos battery on the Averatec 3200

I can't find step by step instructions for dismantling your laptop (I found them for a Toshiba), but in general the CMOS battery on any PC is on the motherboard (this includes laptop motherboards). You'll have to take the system apart, including taking the keyboard out, etc. etc. to get to it. Take a look at how a Toshiba 6100 is taken apart for an example: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba6100/Toshiba_Satellite_Pro6100_dismantle_1.htm It's not for the faint of heart so I'd recommend taking it to a local repair shop ...
