SOURCE: Bobbin tension on Viking 350 Sewing Machine

Viking bobbin case tension adjustment:
When the bobbin runs out, sometimes it bends the bobbin case tension spring. Then tension is too light. Take the bobbin case out of the machine. Tie the loose bobbin thread to the Designer 1 needle plate. Insert the bobbin in the bobbin case. Here’s the tricky part set the bobbin case on the table as if it’s in the machine (Bobbin is visible and sitting horizontal to table top) threaded as if sewing and loose end tied to needle plate (that is removed from the machine). Lift the bobbin case off the table rotate it so that the flat side of the bobbin are vertical to the table and no longer horizontal. Have the bobbin case oriented so that the thread coming out of the bobbin case sprint (slot area where it is put for sewing) is at the top. Lift it high enough that the needle plate is lifted from the table. It should not release thread unless you shake it gently and then a very small amount of thread. The needle plate is the exact weight resistance your bobbin case should have on the thread.

SOURCE: looping underneath

I watched a 'You Tube' demo that showed ........if you loosen or tighten the very small screw at the base of the bobbin this gives you the correct tension & stops the looping under the fabric........I didn't even know this screw existed ! It is trial & era at first re the correct tension but you do get there.... the art is to do it in small mini stages.....like you hardly move it ! Thanks to 'You Tube' I can now get on and finish my drapes !

SOURCE: How to adjust the bobbin tension?

On a sewing machine, the first "knob" in the threading process is usually the tension.

Try threading the machine with the presser foot up, first. Sew a few stitches and then make adjustments as needed - right is a tighter and left is looser when turning the tension adjustment.

I would recommend buying sewing machine. These little gadgets are cute, but they just don't do that well and are not worth the stress they create.

SOURCE: sewing machine tension

Hi. The upper tension is too loose (even tho it looks ok). If the upper thread is too loose, it can't pull the bobbin thread up to properly form the stitch and you get those messy 'birds nest' on the bottom side of the fabric. I posted a Tip on Adjusting Tension--read that and adjust your upper tension.

Thanks!

On rmy riccar sewing machine..After I sew a seam the top stitch seems fine, but underneath the thread is all bunched up in a wad.

increase the needle thread tension
the term is bird nesting and is caused because the needle thread is not pulling the bobbin thread up

Need manual instructions for Riccar 2910 need help with bobbin, threding machined and tension setting and bobbin holder.

You may be better off going to google and search "riccar 2910 manual" That way you can follow their detail dorections rather then someone elses and it confuse you. Usually the PDF versions have pictures with it :-)

My friend has a Riccar 210B sewing machine. The dial on the very top which adjust the tension will not move at all. We have cleaned and oiled the machine and It runs very nicely, except for that top...

try some wd-40 or silicon spray & let it set for a couple of hours & gently try to turn the dial, but don't force it or it could brake..& if it doesn't loosen up after a couple of hours, spray it again & wait again & try it then

Do you have your owners manual? I should tell you what tension to use for each type of material. If you do not have the manul, google riccar.com, sewing machine model ie.706 manual and it will download it for free.
