Home heater problem

Squirrel cage fan problem. Hard starting: motor capacitor, motor relay. Makes a growel when it kicks on? Oiled the motor bearings and is free wheeling by hand.

Blower motor makes aping noise then starts for about 5 seconds then does it all ovver again in heat or cool or fan only

If it is a squirrel cage blower motor, it is likely to be wearing a bearing, or a loose connection.

If it is a regular motor, it could be a loose fan blade.

The fan on the inside ac unit wont come on is there a reset button

One of the common problems in air conditioners is fan motor bearings going bad and the fan motor shaft is locked up stalling the motor or preventing rotation. Another cause of fan motors not running could be the motor start capacitor. The capacitor is needed to give the motor a jump start to get it rotating. If you can get access to the fan squirrel cage and can spin the fan ok, the motor bearings are then good. Most likely the problem then is a bad motor start capacitor that can be replaced. In very rare cases the motor winding itself could be bad and the fan motor will need replacement. regards, Dennis

Ac squirrel cage fan motor noise

Could be bearings going out, or a squirrel cage rubbing the blower housing, a squirrel cage blade that came loose, or a capacitor.

The fan on my heater wont turn on

First make sure you have power to the motor. Then check to see if fan turns freely. If not a good cleaning on the fan or squirrel cage may help. If fan turns freely then set thermostat to call for cool and manually spin fan. If it runs then you will probable need to replace the start capacitor. If it does not run at all and you are sure it has power to the motor then you need to replace the motor. Best of luck and thank you.

How do you get the squirrel cage off the motor shaft. I bought a replacement motor but it looks like I have to destroy the press fit retaining washer and or the plastic squirrel cage to get the assembly...

I have done this before and it is hard. (big time)One time I just got annoyed and bent the washer and got a replacement one at the hardware store. Sometimes the nut will come off if you pull it gently while "unscrewing" it Try a little WD40 on the shaft to help the squirrel cage off. also prying up gently helps. Good luck.

I have a Ruud Acheiver 90, I'm having some problems, the rollout (burner) limit switches are opening, and there is an electrical burning smell. It seems that sometimes the squirrel cage isn't kicking on,...

Thanks for your question,
yup your fan motor is bad, if you need to manually start it each time then the motor winding are bad and it is not getting the air across the coils, which in turn are over heating, thus causing a burning smell, and then tripping your limits, you need to replace this motor ASAP, before it does cause a fire, if the limits ever fail !! I hope this was helpful for ya, if it was please give this a rating, thanks again,

Ruud Problems

ive seen this this year several times. first off take the combustion blowe loose from the ducting and look inside to see if theres any thing causing the blower to not run (water) what happens is that the flue gasses condense and run back into the blower then when it trys to start its binded.let me know if this does not solver the problem and we can get more into the furnance.

Carrier 58GS150-CB ignites but fan will not blow (Loud Buzzing)

The loud buzzing soud i found to be the fan blower motor. I removed the fan bracket assembly and sprayed a little WD-40 on the set screws and protruding shaft so that sqirrel cages could be removed. (Also marked position of set screws on shaft) once squirrel cages were removed I removed 4 motor mounting bolts. Cleaned sqirrel cages and housings with industrial strenghth rim cleaner to remove solid dirt and will replace motor and capacitor.
BTW thanks for nothing
