Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Setting the printer to greyscale only and that has not worked.
Depending on the printer you have, some printers will not work without the color ink installed, even if you only want to print black. In most cases printing in greyscale will actually use more ink as the printer will mix colors to make shades of grey. Look for a driver settting of black only, but likley you will have to shell out for color cartridges.

SOURCE: Print Black and White?
When choosing greyscale you should also have the option to "print using black print only" I am assuming you are using WIN XP START BUTTON CONTROL PANEL PRINTERS select the default printer right mouse click select properties select the printing preferences button select the color tab check the greyscale box the below that select the print in black ink only. I know this works because I just set it up for a customer yesterday. Good Luck, Tim

SOURCE: Greyscale Printing
Go into Printers, Properties, Printing Preferences, then Black Ink Only. If you make that the default, it will automatically print black ink with you click on the printer in the toolbar. If you want to print one document in color, click on File, Print, Properties, and set it for color for that one job only. The default of Black Ink should stay the same.

No, Canon does not have this facility. Also mostly greyscale is not light black but rather a mixcture of the 3 primary colours. You should have a reset/resume button on the printer - hold this in for a slow 5 seconds to de-activate ink warnings per cartridge that is giving alarms. Proceed carefully and only print text that is black so that the colour printheads do not burn out.
