Ge elec.dryer has a loud rubbing, squeaky sound in the drum area. Any suggestions? Model#DWXR473ET3WW -7 cycle, heavy duty large capacity. I bought it 3 yrs. ago from a appliance co. I was told it had been a NFM.store demo and selling "As Is" without a book and appliance store warranty only. Recently, this noise started. This co. service call charge $60.00, Labor charge is $100.00 and parts charges is what ever part(s) will cost. I need some suggestions on: is it worth trying to fix by myself, or paying a company to repair it or just shop for a new one with these capabilities/accessories? Any sugestions Ineed Help. Thanks, Carolann

GE 5 Cycle Automatic Heavy Duty Extra Large loud noise

All ge dryers have a center bearing on the back side of the drum and drum glides on the frontside. The glides make a scrubbing sound when bad and the drum is hard to turn. The rear bearing does a squeak thang when the plastic bearing wears thin and begins to make metal to metal contact between drum mount and rear bulkhead mount. It is an easy fix but the drum gotta come out. here is my pictorial page that shows how with videos and repair pix:

GE 5 CYCLE LARGE CAPACITY DRYER HAS LOUD SQUEAL WHILE DRUM TURNING. SOUNDS LIKE metal rubbing

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers are in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.

GE DSXH436V1WW heavy duty large cloths get caught

This dryer doesn't have rollers at the front of the drum, it uses a felt rub strip between the drum and the front cover. You'll need to replace the rub strip. It's easy to do but you'll need to get the special high-temp adhesive.
