If timer will not hold programming, then try resetting timer if it has a reset button. If timer has battery, remove battery and replace with new battery, and try resetting timer in that manner. If functionality is not restored, then move timer to different outlet and connect to different lamp. And always test outlet with cheap circuit analyzer from home center. Outlets that are out of code can affect electronics including timers. If outlet checks out, then timer is probably defective. Most timers have 1 year limited warranty.
