Hi Mary, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC33 has a brush control clutch system, which allows you to turn off the brush bar to protect hard floors and delicate rugs. The clutch mechanism uses two belts which are engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use. They're not designed to be replaced by the user, and we'd advise against attempting this as you could cause damage to your machine not covered under warranty.

If you're concerned your DC33 doesn't seem to be working correctly we're happy to offer further advice. If a repair is needed, we should also be able to confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty. Just give our experts a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

    Hi Mary,

The filters in your DC33 should be washed at least once every 3 months, using cold water without detergent. Allow them to dry somewhere warm for at least 24 hours before replacing in the machine. Please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide for assistance:

Brush bar does not turn when unit is turned on, belt is intact and no noticeable defects.

LOts of these units have a switch for brush or you have to pull back on the handle to start brush.

      Hope this helps Mike

How to change belt on Dyson dc33

Hi William, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC33 doesn't use a traditional, user-replaceable belt. Instead, the two belts are part of the brush control mechanism, which allows you to shut off the brush bar to clean hard floors and delicate rugs. These belts are engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use.

If your DC33's brush bar isn't currently rotating, please follow each of the steps shown in our online Support guide, to rule out any simple issues: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc33/dc33-multifloor/using-my-dyson-list/flo-dc07-gen-how-to-remove-a-blockage/redirect-to-removing-debris-from-the-brushbar-dc33/removing-debris-from-the-brushbar-dc33

It's also important to make sure your DC33's brush control is set to carpets rather than hard floors:

If you still need help with your machine after trying these simple checks, you're welcome to get in touch directly. You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My Dyson DC33 isn't working correctly. It's not picking up like it used to. The brush isn't turning and the belt is fine. I've checked all filters, hoses and cleaned everything. Why is the brush not...

Is it possible that you have accidentally changed the brush control setting? I say this because it happened to me and I thought it had broken. I must have caught the dial with my foot! Here a link that might help:

My dyson upright has no suction from the hose and after replacing the belt it squels something terriable. Can you help me please I am not very technically minded.

      Hi Michael,

I am sorry to hear you are having difficulty with your DC33. The problem you are describing with the hose sounds like a blockage. Please visit http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1419&product=DC33-MULTIFLOOR for step by step instructions to locate and remove any blockages. You may also want to wash your filters to ensure proper performance.

The squealing sound you describe is unusual. With the machine turned off and unplugged, we recommend inspecting the brush bar for any debris that could be wrapped around the brush and making contact with the belt. However, because you have recently changed the belt, we would also appreciate the opportunity to trouble shoot with you over the phone. Please call us at 1-866-693-9766 US or 0800 298 0298 UK so we can provide further assistance.

      Best wishes,

      Jessica

How to change the belt on a dyson dc 33

With a small torx driver (not the folding kind, the screw driver kind) and some patience, the belts can be replaced pretty easily. They run about 10 bux for both (you may as well change both). Dyson, like most manufacturers, makes it seem difficult in the hopes that you'll send it back to them for repair, where they will most likely sell you the whole clutch assembly because its easier to replace than fiddling with belts.
