Question about HP Compaq Business Desktop d330 Slim Tower

1 Answer

Internal DVD player does not recognize discs. The player itself i recognized in the BIOS.

I bought a HP D330 computer without any OS. I tried to install Windows with the original Microsoft CD-rom but I got the message that the bootmgr was missing. I tried several CD and DVD players and I also changed the IDE cable. Booting from CD was still not possible. I managed to install Windows with an external DVD player on USB. The internal DVD player does not recognize any disc in the player. The DVD player shows up in the BIOS. What must I do to be able to use the DVD player? Is there some kind of protection? Thanks for your help!!

There are no protections
you have to replace it

Testimonial: "Please tell me WHAT to replace. I have tried several players and also the IDE cables but the problem is still there. So the problem is NOT in the cables and NOT in the players. Now I've changed the harddisk from IDE1 to IDE2 and the DVD-player from IDE2 to IDE1. The problem seems to be solved but I still wonder why I can't use the DVD-player on IDE1 where it is supposed to be???????"

The harddisc jumpers were set to cable select. The harddisk was connected to the blue IDE connection on the motherboard and also at the other end of the IDE cable (Master)

The DVD-drive was connected toe the white IDE connection on the motherboard, jumper was set to Master and it was also connected to the master connection on the cable. This combination gave the initial error and the disk in the DVD-drive could not be read so the PC could not boot from CD.

Now I have changed the harddisk to the white connector on the mb and the DVD-drive to the blue connector on the mb. This seems to work but I still don't know why it didn't work with the original connections. The harddrive is factory set to the blue connector on the mb.

I have also changed the jumper on the harddisk from CS to master because I want to use a second harddisk as slave. The second drive is jumpered as slave and is connected to the middle connector on teh IDE cable.

At this point everything works fine but I still can't find teh reason why it doesn't work when everything is connected as it was from the factory. I'm puzzled!! ;)

I tried it all. Setting the CD-ROM as the first boot device and also (while booting) hitting the F9 key to change bootsequence to CD first. No result!!

It kept on trying to boot from the HDD, no matter what I changed in the BIOS settings.

My dvd drive disappeared from computer/device manager. Drive opens, and spins disc, but isn't recognized by Windows 7.

Does BIOS still recognize the drive? Also, check to make sure the IDE / SATA cord is fully connected, the dirve will operate with power, but wont be recognized without the other cord. If the cords are connected and BIOS reads it then win7 should autodetect it. If its not, it may be the disc itself, try putting something you know for a fact works. If the problem persists, try adding the hardware through the device manager, or deleting all mention of it, then re-adding it through the device manager. This tricked worked for Xp machines, although Ive never had to try it on a Win7 machine, it should still work.

DVD plays in DVD player is not seen at all by Windows XP

Hi,it's obvious from your problem that the particular disc that cannot be viewed on your computer is of a formatt not supported by the windows XP.some DVDs are of low quality which can be viewed practically on any DVD player but as a result of their low quality and the sensitivity of the Windows they are not recognized by your computer. In as much as other DVDS play on your computer,it means there's no problem with your computer, but an unsupported disc formatt is been trying to be viewed and there's nothing you can do to view a DVD formatt not supported by your computer.please don't be bothered.
Thanks and take care

If you format the hard drive NTFS format you should be able to install Windows XP. If the computer is old, the hardware may not work with Windows XP. Any computer built in last 8-9 years should work with Windows XP.

HP CD/DVD optical drive is not recognized

I found that there was a firmware conflict caused by the installation of iTUNES. I uninstalled and cleared the upper and lower filters in the registry and the internal DVD-Rom is recognized. First I cleared the registry and the drive was recognized after a hard boot. So Far no twitches. Knock on wood.

DVDRRW recognizes CDs, not DVDs.

What PC ,
HP Pavilion Media Center TV m8100n Desktop PC
what OS, we cant guess, OS, ever. say it. please.
then we can talk. it came new with XP/VISTA/W7
which one is yours? (then and now, did you upgrade to w10 for free? we cant guess that either,)

"regardless of type (DVD )" does that mean , using program manager
explorer, (my PC, my computer, app) cant see files on a real
store bought DVD? or cant read any windows disks, real install DVD? from HP or MS?
or cant read DVD-r , Only, ? be more clear on media, even give a real example .
like my computer app runs and sees it but media player don't.

ill guess XP and real DVDs can not be seen by ANY means.

if running XP , why? XP is not only a Virus magnet ask (UK hospitals that fun....)but also , has no support or is buggy on many DVD drives made. and also many USB ports and devices can be dead on XP, XP sux really... and vista close 2nd
If not on W7, upgrade it now, and win. really.

if not already.
never post lacking OS or the post will go NOWHERE fast.

there are patches for XP, for 16 long years, endless.
HP has none
MS has none, (ok 1)
you just dig them up from the toxic internet of viruses..
the toxic soup.
got SP3 from XP that is mandatory in all cases, and the reg patch for DVDs. yes, there is one.
as is the one and only, 3 month old MS patch to stop
the RANSOMEWare. attacks.

what OS what OS what OS?
