Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

Whirlpool toploader will not go into a spin. The water drained out but the machine will not go into a spin.

We have tried to level the machine better. Or has something broke in the machine. Any tips on what we should do?

Set machine at 45 degree angle, don't put it on its back because there is still water in the outer tub. With a flashlight look at under side of machine. Is belt intact? Is it tight?

SOURCE: GE WBXR2060V1WW won't agitate...

There's a part under the agitator(which lifts off if you pull up from the bottom evenly on two sides) called the "Air Bell Coupler" that attaches to a metal toothed motor shaft with one bolt. More than likely the plastic teeth have stripped off from this coupler, preventing it from sitting tightly on the shaft, thus causing the agitator to not "agitate" properly. You can get this from www.partselect.com. PS1517844 KIT - AGITATOR COUPLING
Cost is $7.15 plus shipping.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Whirlpool Top Load Washer LSR8233JQO no spin & no drain

The symptoms you describe are typical of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually located on the right hand side under the cabinet. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the right side of the wash tub opening. Make sure the lid strike is still on the lid and intact, first. Then, check the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place (two screws along the tub rim on the right hand side). Often all that is required is to tighten up the mounting screws and this will realign the lid switch where it can be properly activated by the lid strike. If the lid switch is broken, you can find a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. The lid switch is listed as item number 11 (part #3949247) and the lid strike will be listed as item number 20 (part #358684). If you do not wish to order online, take the part numbers provided by Sears and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. These are common parts that most will carry in their store inventory. The following link explains how to replace the switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

This is a very inexpensive repair that you can easily accomplish on your own. I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS This is a common problem experienced by this line of washing machines. To prevent future failures, do not slam the washer lid or place anything heavy on the lid. Repeatedly slamming the lid to get it to work, or manipulating the timer can can more potential problems.

What is the minimum length of drain tube for whirlpool topload washer, & how should it be plumbed

washing machine drain hoses should be higher than the full water level before the drain
hanging the hose over the washing tubs edge is the correct height
as there is no valve or solenoid tap in the drain system, if the hose is placed on the floor , it will never fill so the high point is where the washer water will fill to until the control shuts the inlet water off

I have an LG TopLoader washing machine. It does not want to wash, it fills with water and drain the water but it does not want to wash. It is a 7.2kg toploader.

I believe you need to replace the Spin Solenoid. Your machine is not switching over to spin/wash.

It is a very cheap part to replace, and can be bought at your nearest Home Appliance Part Store.

Part Number: 5250FA1731L/P

Good Luck

Whirlpool Ultimate care II will not spin or drain

The primary promlem is draining. Make sure the drain hose is not kinked or blocked .Water flowing out when the hose is lowered ( the hose needs to be lower than the water level, inside the machine as well) would show if it's blocked. Another cause is a jammed or failed pump. Good luck....Nomess

Kenmore topload washing machine that wont switch to drain

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Then, see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

Normally, this would appear to be a Lid Switch or Neutral Drain problem BUT since it is re-filling , it sounds like a Timer problem.

See the Service Manual for how to test / replace the timer.

My maytag topload washer overfilled,

It isn't a sensor problem, it sounds more like your water level tube has pulled loose. This is attached to the outer drum itself. You can see it when you remove your front cover to the right of the outer tub. This tube uses the pressure generated from your tub water level to push air up to your water level selector, which has a rubber membrane that flexes and closes 2 contacts as the water level makes the rubber expand. If that tube is off, the water will just keep running.

Ultimate Care II toploading washer doesn't empty or spin after ag

Hello, I can help.

If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.

10yr whirlpool toploader wash machine no spin/agitat. but works?

When the clothes are wet at the end of a cycle, check these:

Motor coupler
Spin cycle
Siphoning
Water-inlet valve
Motor coupler To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning:

  • If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine.

  • If it isn't spinning--and your machine was produced by Whirlpool®--you may have a broken coupler. Many Whirlpool-made washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it completely.

Spin cycle If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component.

Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Siphoning If the water that pumps from the machine goes right back into the machine after the spin cycle, it may be because your washer is siphoning the water from a laundry tub with a slow drain, back into the washer. Try to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is there something stuck in the drain?) Also, be sure the drain hose doesn't reach more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub. If it does, cut off the excess.

Water-inlet valve Water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub--you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, replace the valve.
