Question about Panasonic Kx-tga641m/kx-tga641 Cordless Handset Phone/kx-tg6431m

My land lines are working but all my handsets say check tel line...no dial tone or response. Batteries are good according to tester. Anything I can do??

We were away for a couple of days when we came home the answering machine was frozen (booted up after it was unplugged from the wall) but all 3 phones said check tel line. I plugged in land lines and they all work fine...what's up?

Ck the red and green wire that goes to the system those 2 make the phones work just do the main main phone first , , it does not sound like the phones are broke you are not getting a dial tone due to no connection to the line itself

Our cordless phone says check tel line we have unplugged and plugged back in nothing called phone company they said everything was fine still our phone isnt working


You probably have a telephone wiring problem inside your home or your cordless telephone base has failed. I like to use an old corded phone for diagnostics. If you have other phones connected to the same phone line, make sure that all handsets are in standby/on hook.

First, try a different RJ-11 cable between the jack and the base. (Note: I have seen someone use a handset cord here. It doesn't work so make sure that the correct cable is in use.) If the "check tel line" message persists, connect the test phone to the jack with the RJ-11 cable. Do you hear a dial tone? If you do, then the cordless phone base has malfunctioned. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer. Otherwise, replace the phone.

If neither phone gets a dial tone, check if the test phone hears a dial tone at another jack on the same line, if you have one. If you have a dial tone here, then you know that the wires in the first jack or between the service box and the jack have a problem. Check the jack. There are two types of jacks: keystone and screw connections. Look for any loose conductors. For a keystone jack, you will need a punch-down tool, available at most hardware stores in the wiring section. Do not strip the wire; just push it back into the correct spot in the keystone. For screw-type jacks, strip the wire and secure it under the correct screw. See http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx for the pattern.

Find your service box. Check if any wires are dangling. I had a service upgrade where the wiring for one jack was left loose behind the siding. Once that wire was connected to the new box, all of the jacks worked. Even though the telephone company said that the service was good, try your test phone if there is an RJ-11 jack in the service box. If you do not have a dial tone, get your phone company to send a technician. The outside wiring needs to be repaired. (Most companies should repair this for free. However, some companies are trying to get more people switched to other service types.)

Do you have a DSL line? If so, where is the DSL filter? If your filter is inside, you may need to replace it. If it is part of the service box, your telephone company technician should fix it for you.

If your phone line has a dial tone at the service box and the problem isn't in the jack, then you may want to hire a professional to fix a wiring problem in the wall. Most telephone companies will provide a technician to do this for a fee.

(I have had mice damage copper wire leading to a phone line outage. Other external wiring problems were due to contractors digging too close to the phone line. With a fiber-optic service, when the modem in the service box failed, the phone lost the line and dial tone.)

Getting check tel line message on base unit. Checked all the plugs on handsets, but still get message.


It could be one or more of these:
- the cord that goes from the base unit to the phone company wall jack is faulty
- the cord that goes from the base unit to the phone company wall jack is not connected or is not plugged in to the base unit jack labelled 'line'
- the wall jack is not active (ie; does not have phone company dial tone)

All phones are plugged in and operating but i get a busy signal on all in talk mode


I assumed when you say all phones are operating means there's power and are charging.
1. There could be some phones that are loading the Tel line. Disconnect all phones and plug it one by one while checking the dial tone. If all phones gives busy tone, there coulb be a problem in the Trunk line or the Tel Company line.
2. There could be a short or resistance in the line. Check the connection in junction box between your house and the Tel Company cable.
3. If you have an analog Tel set, you can check the dial tone directly from Tel Company cable that comes in to your house.

No line displayed on handset. No dialling tone. Unable to make or receive calls.


At the cost of asking the obvious, please check phone line connection to the wall and the phone. Sometimes a minor disconnect can lose you dialing tone. If the phone company says line is good, try other phone jacks to see if you get dial tone.

How do i get dial tone on fax machine


first, as a tech, i would make sure your phone jack works, then also make sure the line is plugged into the "line" jack on rear of fax. if those two steps are verified beyond a doubt, press your "hook" button and listen for dail tone. if none, pick up handset and listen. if you get tone on handset, then your speaker is disconnected. if you don't get a tone either way, then chances are you have a bad "NCU" board.

These phones are digital proprietary telephones which means that they only work on panasonic telephone systems and not on normal analog lines. If you have a panasonic system the correct way is to plug the line into the " To Main Unit ", the handset into " Handset/Headset" and a normal analog phone into " To Tel ". If the wiring on the line jack was not done digitally the phone will also not work

Phone line is working but can't get a dial tone. Tryed the hook button, no tone.Unable to turn fax off with pushing the button.Only way to turn it off, is to unplug it.How do I reset the machine?


the first thing you should check is the socket you have put the fax line into at the back there is usually two sockets one says line and one tel..make sure you have it in teh line socket as this is for the fax line in... teh tel socket is usually to connect a phone handset to.. if this works let me know.. good luck A

Try switching batteries with one of your other handsets known to be in good working order or replace the batteries in the handset with the problem with new ones

Need to change phone back to tone dialing


Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K
