Question about Garden
Everything could be wrong, wrong size piston, rings, but most likely you have a timing issue. since it ran at first and I don't know how well or long it could have jumped time or broken the tensioner for the chain. but if it was slightly off you probably bent a valve an it is staying open slightly preventing compression. pull out your plug and put your finger over the plug hole to check the compression. if no compression then you bent the valve.

Check for wore clutch belt and also check to see if your getting water in the clutch housing. If your getting water in the housing, your clutches could be corroded as well. There should be no water getting in that shroud.

Seriously, guydaigle? The 300 Xpress is a two stroke. The problem is too much fuel. Start by checking and adjusting the carb. Look at the needle & seat, then the float level.

I would say you may either have water in your fuel or a filter that should be replaced, or even a blocked air filter.
Please let me know what you find

Gap setting could be incorrect, the the battery could be bad. Stator only put out a couple of amps just enough to maintain a good battery.

was it literly a minute that it ran or was it like 10-15 minutes with you reving it up a bit? It could be many different things from as simple as it ran out of the gas that was in the carb and the tank valve is shut off to things like your magneto coil is shorted, no spark. Have you checked for spark and fuel? Does the engine have compression? More details will help solve your problem.
