Question about Music

1 Answer

Hello! I have the Kurzweil Mark Pro TWOi piano. Suddenly some keys make strange sounds through the speakers, like distrortion or noise. The speakers seem to be fine, because the demo songs play perfectly. Some voices are completely distorted, while others have problems on certain keys or depend on the pressure applied. Please, help me if you can, because playing is useless and I'm in great need of my piano. Thank you.

Try to re-initialize the unit(factory reset). If the keys are the problem then the rubber key contacts need to be cleaned or replaced. Contact a local service center for help.

Hard reset procedure

1. Turn the Kurzweil off
2. Hold down the KEY START, KEY STOP, and LAYER VOLUME buttons for 5 seconds while powering the unit up, then release
3. Select RUN DIAGS
4. Press the UP arrow until the display reads RAM TEST
5. Press the START/STOP button to run the test
6. When the display reads SUCCESS, turn the unit off and back on. The unit is now reset.
If your Kurzweil still does not come up to the normal screen after this procedure, it will require service.

Tell me some tips and tricks about using the Kurzweil sp3x stage piano

The place to get the best help for Kurzweil gear is Sweetwater Sound.
Other than that, always use it in stereo mode with a decent sound system. Always use speakers with at least a 15" woofer and a horn to get the full range of sound it's capable of.

Replacing battery in kurzweil mark 12

As per the manual it says it is located near the power switch. You will need(as per the manual instructions): a screwdriver(Phillips head), a knife, a pair of scissors, and a pair of front end wire cutters as, when shipped from the factory, the three AA batteries were taped or cable tied as a shipping precaution(to keep them from falling out). ***WARNING: MAKE 100% SURE YOU HAVE BACKED UP ALL OF YOUR SOUND PATCHES ON A FLOPPY DISK BEFORE BEGINNING THIS PROCEDURE!!! ONCE YOU START THE REPLACEMENT PROCESS, YOU HAVE ABOUT 30 SECONDS BEFORE THE BOARD LOSES ITS CHARGE AND YOUR SOUND PATCHES GET ERASED FROM THE ROM CHIP.***
Make sure you have all of the needed batteries and tools before beginning.

Hope this helps.

I cannot get the grand piano sound......help somebody!

You are not clear if you can't select it or it just doesn't sound like a grand piano. If it is the latter here are the things to check:

1. Are your speakers at least 15 inch diameter with suitable tweeter as well? This is if you want the deep lows of the piano. Twelve inch are minimum size to sound anything like a grand. The internal speakers found in the pianos just don't quite make it as they are often only 4 to 6 inch.

2. Is your amplifier capable of enough power?

To get the REAL GOOD grand sound you need a capable audio system. A home stereo system just doesn't cut it to reproduce the sound of a grand piano.

I have a Kurzweil Mark-Pro TWOi. It takes several minutes to turn on, and keeps resetting and clicking while booting up. My guess is a bad capacitor somewhere. I looked at the power board, and it looks...

I don't know what you "tested" the power supply board with, but I would use an oscilloscope to look at the outputs to see if any of the regulators are drooping. Clicking is a broad term... if it is a relay, it PROBABLY is for speaker protection and senses balance of the power amps.
With a two minute delay, this is PROBABLY a thermal issue... Use freeze mist/circuit cooler to find suspicious parts.

I have a Mark V Kurzweil piano - the electrical ''box'' - not a technical term - just my description - in the back of the piano in which the plug attaches to go to the wall is disconnected in the piano -...

Your are likely talking about the input power connector. They are usually a three blade connector in a well.

If the connection is soldered to a circuit board, it has likely gotten bashed in. The circuit board MAY be cracked, but is likely repairable.

Take it to a local electronics repair shop or find one through a music equipment store that deals with pro audio gear.

USUALLY these connectors have "ears" that attach to the case for strength and if the connector has been pushed in the ears likely have broken off. The parts are USUALLY readily available from several sources including Digikey and Mouser.

Kurzweil digital piano unpredictable voices and volume

The contacts of various switches and keys are likely dirty. They are often conductive rubber and need cleaning with 99% isoprophly alcohol and q-tip. Clean both the conductive rubber pill and th circuit board traces they contact.

I don't see you doing any damage by having a look but I would get a piano tuner or repairer in to investigate the problem expertly - no slight on you. But if your Church congregation depend on it it's well worth the money.
Good Luck
