Try heating a cup of water for two minutes. I bet it doesn't. A sign of a magnetron being defective is a loud hum and no heating. Unit is then not economical to repair.

I have a Maytag Microwave/Hood MMV4203DS00. Twenty minutes after its last use as a microwave oven, the Vent Fan spontaneously went on and the Display Shows: VENT...FAN..--5E-- (or SE?). The microwave...

"SE" error means you have a shorted membrane keypad.
On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so the control panel frame assembly (which comes with a new keypad) would have to be ordered and replaced.

It's actually a pretty simple DIY repair.

The frame assembly is part number W10258190 and you can get it for $67.98 (subject to change) from the Pros here. You can also order the thermostat (part number WB27X10567 ) from them.

Their is a video here showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad as per the photo below.

Some connectors on the relays have a lock:

Making a grinding noise when turned on and the turntable does not rotate at all

sounds like a broken gear for the turn about.
you can remove the casing of the microwave and examine the bottom area where the gears and motor are located and see what parts need to be replaced.
the parts can be ordered at you local GE appliance repair shop. ( they might even have them in stock -- take the broken parts down to their shop with the make, model and serial numbers ).

good idea.. better safe than sorry. get it looked at by a professional, ask for a "Quote" before proceeding with any repair work. These days repair can often exceed replacement cost.

Magnatron suddenly making more noise. Much louder

Often over the years the Transformer laminations can loosen, from the on/off rising and collapsing magnetic fields, and then they sorta hum louder. I suspect this is what is going on. Shouldn't be too much of a worry.. keep an eye on it tho.

Microwave making dull thumping noise when NOT in use

I called a technician out today. Seems like the problem is the circuit board. It wasn't working properly and the sound is the fan. The fan is supposed to turn on when the microwave is in use and off when it is not. In this case, the fan continued even when the microwave was not in operation. A new circuit board has been ordered and will replace the old one when it arrives. For now, I can still use the microwave, but I have to unplug it everytime I finish heating something up. A little inconvenient, but at least it'll still heat my food up in the meantime.

Noise while not running

don;t worry;
all you need to do is lubricate the fan bearings with light machine oil and make sure the fan is not hitting anything
