Question about Apple Macbook Pro, -2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR2 ,250GB SATA HD , SuperDrive
Is the Mac dead when you plug in power? If possible, what is your model identifier? Are you near an Apple Store? If so, the best option is to take it in. It will be free to give you an estimate. I am asking about the model identifier, since I have replaced my MacBook Pro battery, and that will determine which battery to buy. How to find model identifier?
Click on the Apple menu bar item in far upper left corner,
Click About This Mac.
Click System Report button.
It should be on the second line.
It will read something like "MacBookPro4,1" or "MacBookPro5,1" from your description above, but no time indicated. The 4,1 mode means "Early 2008" and 5,1 means "Late 2008" Note this model id and the dates, for correct battery replacement. I recommend "Other World Computing" at http://www.macsales.com. They have the best batteries as far as I can tell, and hold up a littler better than the batteries from Apple.
