Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator that will not dispense ice. Ice maker working fine, just will not dispense. We did check the micro switch and it is working. No sound coming from ice maker motor and we even ordered a replacement motor, with no luck. All features on control panel seem to work when pressed. Auger turns when manually done. Any suggestions on what to now check?

When u trip sw to dispense motor must run - so does proper voltage appear at motor connector tabs? If not, follow it back to the voltage source. If so, does motor turn when not connected to mechanism? If not, the motor is defective. If so, is the mechanism from the motor to the auger free to turn. IE can u turn the auger from the motor connection?

We think it may be a connection issue with no power to motor, but cannot determine. Motor makes no sound at all for the old or new motor. We do not have a low voltage tester. When we attempted to test the plug at the bottom of freezer door, we could not get a reading with our tester.

well, u r going in the right direction. chk out this manual - http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&... - it may apply to ur unit or may be close enough to get u there. Make sure crushed/cube sw it fully seated in one direction and lock sw is not on.

Ice will not dispense. Ice maker working and water will dispense.

The micro switch that activates the auger is likely failed.
It is at the top of the fountain lever for ice.

The ice maker works fine but we can no longer dispense ice from the door. No sound, nothing. Water dispenser works fine though.

There is a micro switch behind the panel above the dispenser lever. It's the switch that the leaver presses on when you push a glass into it to fill with water. Pop the panel off and you will see the little black switch I'm refering to.

Ice won't dispense, suspect switch in door cover. how to remove door cover to check? Oddly enough, my ice maker stopped working AND the switch in the door (or other circuit problem for dispensing) failed...

Insert a small putty knife between the dispensor plate and the dispensor cover about 1-2 inches from the sides and press down and inwards . Do this carefully because there are 2 plastic "clips" at the bottom . Once bottom is free , lift upwards and the cover will come off . Remove the plug and it's free . There is a white contraption , large , that have 2 rods the micro switches clip onto and sometimes , the switch on the left , has the broken rod holding the micro switch . This causes no ice dispensing .

take out ice bin, make sure you get it lined up when put back together, should click, sometimes they are a little off and you have to keep trying, mine has that defect, it works, but only on its terms, its a pain to do, but that can stop it from working due to a safety thing
