Re: F5888 900

Doesn't attach at the bottom. If your hose has a block on the one end, take the lid off of the dirty water tank, pull out the block on the front on it and install the block on the end of the hose. Don't forget to put that other block back in when you are done or you won't have any suction.

I am looking for a manual for a Hoover Steam Vac F5821. We want to clean our furniture and not sure how to use it. Got it used and no instruction manual.

Unfortunately, manuals for these older models are no longer available. However you can get the information you need from a newer manual. Go to, and click on product manuals on the lower right center. Enter F5914 when asked for a model number and you can get a similar machine's manual.

How to hook up tool to clean upholstery

Keep your upholstered furniture looking fresh by vacuuming it regularly with the upholstery tool attached to your vacuum's hose. Prevent the fabric from fading (or at least delay this) by keeping your furniture out of direct sunlight -- close blinds, shades or curtains when the sun shines most directly through windows closest to the upholstery. And remove stains by blotting them with a dry cleaning solvent. Before steam cleaning your upholstered furniture, read the piece's cleaning code label to determine whether or not it is safe to do so. Then rent or buy a steam cleaner (also called an extractor) and follow the directions below.

  1. Rent a steam cleaner or purchase one; buy steam cleaner solution.
  2. Step 2 Vacuum the upholstery on the furniture you wish to steam clean; use the upholstery attachment to most effectively **** up loose debris.
  3. Step 3 Test the steam-cleaner solution on the upholstery in an inconspicuous place to ensure the color won't be steamed out or drastically altered.
  4. Step 4 Attempt to remove any stains with a stain removal or dry cleaning solution. Follow the directions that come with the product you choose for the best results, and allow the stain remover to dry before you begin steam cleaning.
  5. Step 5 Remove cushions and, if necessary, arm covers.
  6. Step 6 Gently apply the steaming water and cleaning solution in straight lines across the upholstery one section at a time.
  7. Step 7 Use the cleaning extension on the steam cleaner to **** up as much water as possible. The dirt will come out with the water.
  8. Step 8 Clean one side each cushion (then allow it to dry) before cleaning the other side. If the cushions are permanently attached to the furniture, clean them last.
  9. Step 9 Allow the furniture to dry completely before repeating the steam-cleaning process or replacing the cushions.

I have used my Steam Vac for carpeting, but until today, had never tried cleaning upholstery with the spin-scrub brush. I spent a miserable afternoon trying to control the spray, which seemed to go...

I can sympathize. My vac came with two handheld attachments. I have better luck with the handheld attachment that doesn't have the spin-scrub pads. To keep the water from going all over the place, you need to keep the part the you hold only about 1 inch from the surface of the upholstery; if you hold it higher it gets everywhere; if you hold it lower the spray doesn't spread out wide enough and it just makes big water droplets that roll down the upholstry.

If the vac isn't sucking up the water, it is likely you have it set up wrong. Take off the attachment; if you put your hand over the open end of the tube, do you feel suction? When you are using the handheld attachments there is a rectangular piece you remove (attached to the dirty water tank) and you stick the rectangular part from the hose in there. If you are getting suction but it's just not sucking up any water try these 1) maybe you aren't laying down enough water, spray it more heavily OR 2) you need to **** up the water right after you lay it down. Don't let it soak in for more than a few seconds.

good luck!

Hoover Steam Vac leaks like a sieve

I have the same problem with my hoover steam vac, different model but same problem. So I have had it for 2 years and never used the attachments because the thing leaked out the bottom when i tried. So today I tried to find a solution online and found nothing. So I started toying with the thing and found a solution for my model and I hope it will work for everyone else. I don't have a stair attachment so this goes for the upholstery cleaning attachment. I noticed right where my upholstery attachment connects to get soap, there is a second hole that is covered by a white rubber seal when the cover for the connection area is closed. I put a plastic bag, or anything to seal it, into this hole to make a tight seal. Tried the machine and worked like a champ. So Would be nice if hoover supplied a plug for that, but oh well worked for me hope it works for others with a hoover steam vac.
