Try the linux install again. Don't format, and it should hang on to all your files. If you have important files that you haven't backed up, you might want to search for a linux repair distribution. I'm usually hacking someone's lost password, which is a different war. If your bootloader, is trashed, a reinstall should fix. Windows loves trashing boot records, so I'd avoid letting windows anywhere near the system. you don't mention which bootloader you use, so search for repair bootloader + the name of the bootloader or the name of the distribution, like grub or lilo for the bootloader or ubuntu or mint, etc.

click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: my dell optiplex gx200 bios can't boot

maybe try taking out the cmos battery located in your case, looks like a small watch battery, that will clear bios settings and start from scratch, if there is no battery then there is a jumper sequence to do this

What he did was take his old Dell running a Lenux program, and put a drive running windows 8 with it. I guess he was trying to run a double operating system. We have heard that the two can coincide...

It is never a good idea to install windows in multi boot last. Windows loves trashing bootloaders to try to get rid of any non microslop os. Try repairing the bootloader. Search on the name of the distribution + repair bootloader. You really need to give more information to get a good answer. It sounds like you need to do a little more studying if you are attempting something like this.

I have tried to run windows on it but its not booting from the drive instead it restarts over and over

If you want the system to boot from a cd, try this:
As it boots hit F2 then go to boot options and set the cd rom drive so it boots before the hard drive.
Or you can hit F12 on boot with the Windows cd installed and select the cd rom drive to boot from.

If you are saying you want to repair the constant restarting you can boot from the windows disc as stated above, then select repair windows using recovery console. Then type FIXMBR . You can also try typing FIXBOOT. That "may" fix the boot loop your machine is stuck in.

My Dell Optiplex 745 "No Boot Device Available"

No boot device means that the computer cannot find a drive that has a operating system files and therefore cannot boot up.
This usually means that the hard drive in the computer is faulty.
You need to get a new hard drive and install Windows on the hard drive, together with the drivers for the computer's installed devices and programs to get a working computer.

Hey, My Dell Optiplex GX270 will run for a quick second, beep, and then a light with a barrel looking icon lights for a second too. How do I fix this? Thanks so much!

I would run diagnostics. Here's how you do it if the utility partition exists on your hard drive:

Starting the Dell Diagnostics From Your Hard Drive
  1. Shut down and restart the computer.

  2. When the DELL™ logo appears, press <F12> immediately.

NOTE: If you see a message stating that no diagnostics utility partition has been found, run the Dell Diagnostics from your Drivers and Utilities CD.
If you wait too long and the Microsoft® Windows® logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer through the Start menu and try again.
  1. When the boot device list appears, highlight Boot to Utility Partition and press <Enter>.

  2. When the Dell Diagnostics Main Menu appears, select the test you want to run.

Computer does not see hard drive or cd rom

Use separate cable for both the hard drive.
Make master to the one which is bootable, restart your system and just check bios setting whether both the hard disk are detected or not..also under boot device check first boot drive is hard drive which is master and bootable..
