If you put too much paper in it you will have to unplug it and pull it all back the way it went in.

Shredder will go on reverse but not forward

I have one like the one pictured. UNPLUG THE UNIT, USE GLOVES THE WHEELS ARE SHARP. Take another look at the underside see if the old paper is compacted if so, use an ice pick to pry the paper loose but be careful. Another item you will see 7 holes those are screws. Use a phillips and remove the screws to expose the working parts. Look for paper jams etc. move the wheels by hand, add a little WE40 or lite oil. Hope this helps.

Paper Jammed

I have had the paper jam in my shredder which was not a Fellowes. I removed the power plug from the wall and used old dentist tools to pick the pieces of paper out of the shredding mechanism from underneath. I did not need to remove the cover. After extracting some paper try using the paper reverse option.

Paper jam both forward and reverse are not shredding it is a clump of papers and I can't get it lose

Sound like a serious jam up. Try a sharp small screw driver to flick out jammed paper and try rotating by hand. Caution ensure it is unplugged and use gloves to protect from sharp edges. With the clump of paper try a LITTLE water to soften the clump. Good luck.

How do you remove the top to see the gears in a Royal 16CDX cross cut paper shredder. The overload message is displayed, and I don't know how to get it unjammed.

a possible solution is to UNPLUG the unit, reach in from underneath and start pulling stuck paper out. On mine (different model) I can remover the paper receptacle bin and reach up to remove stuck paper. this usually is caused by overloaded bin pushing shredded paper back up to cutters because it is overfull......BE SURE TO UNPLUG FIRST !!!!!

I put too much paper in and it jammed. I cannot pull the paper out and it won't go in reverse. How can I take it apart to clear the jam?

1) unplug shredder
now there are two screws on the back and two underneath the edge on the front (you need to open the door to access them) remove all four screws and lift cover off towards the back( it helps to back the machine up to a table to support the top so its not hanging by the wiring)
if you still cannot access the jammed item,
remove the metal guards there are screws on the side as well as on the top (i think 4 total) just don't take out the screw with the spring on it that's something else you don't want to play with right now. I will mention that when you take off the guards you will likely discover that there is a lot of shredded paper still jammed up in the blades, a shop vac works pretty well hear, but so will a brush (might as well clean that out as long as you have the cover off.)
avoid using direct force when trying to remove jams, you can break things that way, you may want to try and cut the jammed material free and removing the last bits with a pair of needle nose plyers.

Jammed shredder

First UNPLUG THE MACHINE.
Unscrew four (4) screws, two in front underneath top cover and two in back of top cover. BE careful not to disconnect any wires.
Rotate motor gear or belt in reverse to remove jam. Do not put oil on paper because it expands the paper thickness and only makes it worse.

in your case you have to remove the fuser

I will try to guide you, most of the models are the same.

1-turn off machine and unplug

2-open the side door, you already know where the paper is it's most likely rolled up on a hot long roller, this is the fuser unit
3-with a phillips scredriver(star) remove 2-4 screws that hold the unit, it will have a plug most likely on the right hand side unplug
4-unit should slide out (unless there is a cover holding it
5- you can now see and work on the unit turning the gear by hand to remove the paper.
6-reverse the steps
