Y, C, and PK are recognised ok, but not VM. Have pulled it out and reinserted a few times and even reset the chip, but to no avail. Any suggestion appreciated.

Compatible is the key word. They have a connector that reset the internal counter. Usually a fuse or a pizo cell that recognizes the cartridge. It could be covered with ink or toner. But compatible means recharged in most instances. So try the old one again visually look at where the cartridge contacts the machine.and the connector could have came out of place or broken. Take it back they mite not have replaced the fuse when it was remanufactured. I know that there is a big price difference. This is a true case of "you pay for what you get". Stick to o.e.m. products and you will be a satisfied customer. Trust me on this one. Been there 35 years of experience.

Testimonial: "Thanks Carl, I appreciate your reply. I have been using compatible/replacements cartridges for at least 20 years and this is the first real problem I have ever had with them. I guess that's why they are so popular. Mind you, this is the first time I have ever had a wide format printer and there may be a set of different issues that come with it and replacement carts. Having said that; what you suggest may be the case. While waiting for an answer I jiggled the cart a bit and pushed the end to the left in the hope of seating the chip better on the right - it seems to have worked. I have turned it on and off several times and get a "Ready" each time. So all good and thanks Carl for taking the time. Best regards Wayne"

No longer recognizes the ink

Are you using compatible ink cartridges? When a compatible cartridge is empty in an Epson printer the printer reports "Cartridge not recognised". This is Epson's way of scaring you into using Epson branded cartridges. Just change the cartridge and it should be OK.

If it's not that issue then maybe the chip on the cartridge is faulty. Again, just change the cartridge.

Dear Adviser The Canon cartridges for my Pixma MP140 printer have run out of ink as indicated both on the printer by the E4 signal and on the computer by a pop up window when trying to print a...

Hello, the printer Canon Pixma MP140 has cartridges with no chips. The printer reads the serial from the cartridge and tells you an estimated ink level. My recomandation is to press the resume/cancel buton for at least 10 seconds, that being the method to cancel the ink counter. After you press the resume/cancel buton you will be able to print, scan and copyas you did before.
The only disadvantage is that your printer will never show the ink level for this set of refilled cartridges, but it will work as well as brand new cartridges.

Won't work displays Right Cartridge incorrect. Re inserted a few times.

It seems that printer expires the cartridges after about 18 months even if it's finished or not ,you will have to buy another cartridge to reset it.

A quick reset without buying a new cartridge is to use a discarded empty cartridge in the printer to reset the printer and then reinsert the cartridge you have now.

Will not recognise all cartridges

some problems with compatible cartridges can be solved by taking all the ink out and powering the printer off then back on then put the ink back in, you might have to do this a few times also make sure no ink or dust has built up on the pins.

Canon MP520 cartridge swap and ink refill

Canon MP520 multifunctional device - deactivation of the ink level counter
1. You can do it only when the printer counter releases the warning message - "the ink cartridge is nearly empty" = yellow warning mark

2. You have to do this procedure four times - for every cartridge one times
3. At the screen you will see three warning messages
- for the first one press "OK"
- for the second and third one press "Yes"
4. The fourth message tells you that you can do the ink level counter deactivation by pressing the "Stop/Reset" button (7) for more than 5 seconds. Do it.

Later you can see another type of warning message at the screen:

In this case you can not follow the previous procedure - there will not be any other warning messages.
Just follow the message on the screen and press the "OK" button (5) and you can print.
Unfortunately - I do not know for how long time it works.

You have to manualy check the ink level and refill (change) the cartridge before it is completely empty! You might brake your warranty!
When you insert the new original ink cartridge, the counter will work properly again.

Ink carts not recognised

OK, i know this one ;-)

1 take out the cartridge thats not recognised ( 1 or all dont matter)

2 do a ink change with no ink in

3 put ink cartridge(s) back in.... wiggle the cartridge(s) to seat the "chip" right

4 do a ink change again, if not just follow the steps again.

I had to do this 5 times the other day before it picked it up.

It does work
