How do I open the bottom of a Tatung rice cooker, model TRC-6STW. It is a 2-piece unit. I would like to see if the fuse needs replacement and is the reason why it would not turn on. Thanks. - from et

I suddenly stopped working - no power. It was working OK before this. There is power to the electrical outlet. Other appliances works on the same outlet.

i suggest you bring this to a service center since you guys mentioned that there are no external problems, the thermal capacitor may be busted.

SOURCE: Rice burning at bottom of cooker

I also have this problem and I fixed it by adding in a little more water and by removing the power cord from the outlet immediately after the cooker finishes it's cycle. Not ideal, but it does save my rice.

SOURCE: Need directions for Comet stove top rice cooker

Fill the bottom to the line with water. Put two cups of rice in the top and two cups of water. Put on stove top on high until lower water is boiling, turn to medium heat. For white rice check after about 20 minutes, if water is assorbed and rice is tender, fluff with a fork...eat. If it needs a few more minutes of cooking, no problem.
Brown rice will take about 45 minutes.
I have used my stove top cooker for at least 35 years...ordered it with box top and some money from Comet Rice.

Oster 4724 rice cooker stopped working, blown fuse

I have fixed these several times. That fuse is a thermal fuse and a new one can be bought at electronics parts stores (Radio Shack?). I just bypass them with a piece of wire but then you risk a fire if it overheats again.
Those fuses come in various temperature ratings, so get one that's higher than the one currently in it. Normally the lever should pop up when all the water has boiled, stopping the heating element before the thermal fuse blows, so you may have another problem. The lever is attached to a bi-metal spring that flexes when a certain temp is reached. It may be "tired".

I have an aroma rice cooker model #arc-150sb c1 displays on cooker and no buttons work, can't eat broke collage student. Need to fix asap.

Hi,
Thermal Fuse Problem.
If there is no heat/power, check the continuity o the thermal fuse( white resistor type in the internal wiring connections ). Unscrew and open the cooker at the bottom side.
Replace it w/ similar temp. value.
DON'T SOLDER IT!

Hope that helps you out!

WHERE CAN I GET THE WIRING DIAGRAM FOR MY TAYAMA RICE COOKER TRC-10? IT LIGHTS UP WHEN PLUGGED,BUT IT DOESN'T COOK WHEN PRESSED DOEN

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

I do not have the wiring diagram but... the 2 wires that go to the top of the unit fray and break at the lid hinge point and cause this problem quite often. The 2 wires in the hinge area are for the upper temp sensor. (The floating plate in the top of the lid) If you fix the wires in the hinge area most of the time the come back to life unless the heating element has failed. The heating element will read about 180 Ohms resistance if it is good. The resistance changes a bit as the unit ages.

Try fixing the wires in the hinge then testing the cook button. I usually have extend the wires in the hinge and do a double splice for the NEW wire strip on each wire with heat shrink tubing over the repair.

If this does not work just respond here and I will assist you further.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

My Toastess 20-cup rice cooker stopped working right in the middle of a cycle. I tried a different outlet, and it still doesn't heat up, and doesn't even turn on. The unit is 6 months old.

Hi,
You have a bad connection because the wiring has been bent around too much and has failed...this will not be repairable and you need to replace the cooker...

Here is a tip that I wrote about rice cookers and the amount of rice and water needed...

Sensor problem turning off during cooking

If this is a new rice cooker first try cleaning the thermal sensing unit by scrubbing any build up with a green brillo like scrubber, also clean the bottom of the rice pot where it contacts the thermal sensing unit.
If this doesn't work and your rice cooker is 1 to 2 years old replace the thermal sensing unit.
