Question about Building Materials

1 Answer

My garage door opener opens on it own.

I have reset the code. I have replaced the batteries in the remotes. I disconnected the wall remote to confirm it was not a wiring issue Is there something in the Unit itself that would cause this . I can go 2 weeks with no issues and then it may happen multiple times over a couple of days

Hi, this seems like a relay problem. internal relays in the control unit can get old and start connecting and disconnecting automatically causing the garage to open randomly. especially if you are in a high humidity climate.

You can either replace the control unit or send it to an electronics repair shop to replace the relays inside the control unit for you.

I have a liftmaster formula 1 1280R opener that works fine from the wall mount but all of a sudden both remotes and the built-in remote in my car stopped working. It is not the batteries in the remotes. ...

The motor/control unit may have gotten reset. It needs to relearn the codes transmitted by the remotes.

MIne has a "learn" button on the control unit. Press and hold, then press the button on the remote. Lights will flash indicating it has received and stored the code. Release button.

Check to see if the remote works now. If so, all three should be working. If not, dig up your manuals.

Make sure the green light in the wall control is not flashing. That locks out the remote. If it is press and hold for 3 seconds the lock button on the wall control. It could just be that your remote has failed.

Keep the remote that works with the keypad and replace the other remote with one of the same model. This is a common problem and the only cure is replacement.

Garage door opener remote won't work

look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.
Or a remote in someone’s purse that gets the button pushed by other stuff in the purse.

The test is to disconnect the push button wires at the power unit. If the interference stops you have located the problem. If you reconnect the wires and disconnect the wire at the wall button this will tell you if the problem is the wire or the button.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Garage door remote won't open the garage door

The little button with a padlock on the wall control is a "vacation" lockout feature that disables the remotes. There should be a small LED on the wall control that is always on steady. When the padlock button is pressed and released the LED should be constantly blinking (indicating the vacation lockout mode is active) and your remotes should be disabled. The wall control will still operate the door. Pushing the padlock button again should make the LED stop blinking and restore the door to normal operation.
