To remove the gears, it is helpful to borrow or purchase bearing pullers. Here are on examples.

A Neiko 19 Piece Automotive Bushing Bearing Driver Tool Set

B Amico 75mm Length Center Bolt Two Jaws Bearing Gear Puller

C Wilmar W137P 6 3 Jaw Gear Puller

D ATD Tools 3056 Bar Type Puller Bearing Separator Set in Molded Storage and...

If you have a vice, soft jaws , are placed on an outside bearing racing fit to be held. A Brass hammer or drift pin may be used to strike the armature without damage to move the bearing for clearance. Another person may be needed to catch the shaft from falling. In the case of a internal bearing care must be observed, however, Sockets that fit in the area make great devices to drift the bearing should there be room to employ the repair process.

Fare. Well.

Please watch the entire presentation.

A small bearing puller works best. Here is examples of one to buy or borrow.

A
ATD Tools 3056 Bar Type Puller Bearing Separator Set in Molded Storage and....
B
Pump Pulley Remover Straight Type Two Claws Bearing Puller
Hand Tool

C

The alternative is to squeeze the old bearing in a vice with soft jaws . Then move the end shaft with a brass hammer or punch to remove with an internal fit.

Fare. Well.

Milwaukee 6153-20 grinder is running extremely hot.

Your grinder is either working too hard because of broken or seized bearings or the fan is broken or detached from the armature. Take the brushes out then remove the four screws holding the gear housing on the motor housing. Remove the armature and check the fan and both bearings. If the armature bearings and fan are OK check the bearings and gear teeth in the gear housing.

Replacing the gear on makita angle grinder

Are you replacing both gears? The armature gear (pinion) is usually held on with a nut or else is pressed on. The spindle gear is also pressed on. Most spindle gears will come as an assembly with the gear and spindle and housing all together.

If yours doesn't, then the spindle will need to be pressed out of the housing, and then the gear pressed off of the spindle. (Always replace the grease as well when replacing gears.)

Intermediate gear and armature gear stripped on Milwaukee 6082. Is the armature gear replaceable? How do I remove both gears? How do I remove armature from motor housing?

No the armature gear is made as part of it. the intermediate gear is replaceable but you need a press. to remove the armature first unplug tool and remove brushes, then remove the 4 screws that hold the gear housing to the motor housing and pull out. the intermediate gear is pressed onto the shaft.. Let me know if you need more assistance before voting and thank you

How do I remove the 1/4 - 28 hex locking nut so I can remove the Spiral bevel gear?

you need to remove the gear housing with the armature attached, remove brushes first. then "GENTLY" the metal stack in a vise or hold with a rag and using a good open end wrench loosen the hex nut and after a bit you will need to tap the gear housing away from armature to get enough clearance to completely remove the nut. sounds hard but quite simple

Black & Decker 4 1/2 grinder gets very hot when in use

You will see vents near the head of the grinder. Make sure your hands are not blocking when in use. Also another thing I like to do with my grinders is removed the head cover (gear box) and replace the lube with a good grade of grease. I suspect if you open yours it will look like an orange wax substance. Clean and re-lube. They do run on the warm side.

I cannot get off the abrasive cutoff wheel I put on the grinder

I believe the thread is left hand, but close inspection should verify. Also you should never over tighten cutoff wheels or grinding wheels. You should be able to remove with a gloved hand while holding button on top with the other hand

Something wrong with the armature

If the armature is shot, it will spark a lot where the brushes are touching the armature comutator. To remove the armature:1 Remove brushes. 2 Remove 4 screws holding the gear box. 3 Pull away gear box from the body. The armature may come with the gear box or not, it's only pushed in, so you should have no problem to disassemble it. If the armature stay in the grinder, use two skrew drivers to pray it out. You may not see anythink wrong with it, but it may be no good . That's Makita special, they don't make it good as they used to. The price for new grinder is about $130, for armature $65. field $40
