Hi it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum,

Is the belt on properly? I know you had mentioned trying to replace the belt, but if it's not on properly or is loose then this would affect the rotation of the brush roll.
A general rule would be that you're going to want to replace your belt about every 6 months. Make sure there's tension on the belt.

Are there any noticeable debris or blockages on the roller itself? Remove these, usually with a razor or pair of scissors, and manually rotate the brush roll to uncover any other further clogs.

You can purchase your replacement parts for your Dyson DC33 direct from Crucial Vacuum with free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Hi Barbara, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC33's brush bar will only rotate when the vacuum cleaner is turned on and reclined into the normal vacuuming position, and the brush control is set to 'Carpets':

brush is not rotating - brush-not-rotating-m43difmpidfjgfho0k5c5fgh-2-0.jpg

If the vacuum cleaner is standing upright, or set to 'hard floors', the brush bar will not rotate.

If you're confident the brush control is set correctly, but the brush bar won't rotate when the machine is turned on and reclined, please contact our experts directly so we can talk you through some further troubleshooting checks. If a repair is needed, we can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

prying open with a screwdriver

shaft.

Belt is broken. Not sure how to replace

1. Get a long screw driver (probably phillips head) a strip of tape.
2. Look around underneath your vac for screws... look carefully because sometimes they are sneaky and hidden in weird areas like under the wheels, etc.
3. Take screws out stick them in order on tape turned upwards. (remember how you took them out.)
4. Gently remove the bottom cover.
5. Clean and remove debris, hair, dust bunnies, rocks... whatever.
6. Determine where the belt goes, disengage the beater bar on that side (may need to unscrew something) Belt on beater bar gears. Other end of belt on motor end... then stretch belt with beater bar until it fits back in it's place and replace any screws, etc.
7. Make sure the belt is seated properly.
8. replace cover, screws... test.**

** sometimes belts require that you put a twist in them so it can transition from the motor's direction to the beater bar's direction... if you twist the wrong way... the beater bar will spit dirt out the front of the vac.. (it's bulldozing it) In that case remove cover and twist the belt the other way.

Good luck.

Hoover empower belt need replace

To gain access to the belt: remove 2 screws at the top rear cover, next remove 2 screws at the bottom front cover. This will allow the cover to be removed. Then remove 3 or 4 screws that hold the roller in place (from the top). you will be able to see the belt and replace it.

The bottom of the hoover wont work. its not picking anything up and not spinning round.

You most likely will need to replace the belt on this model. There are 4 screws in the corners of the bottom power nozzle. DO NOT remove the 3 that are grouped together (these are the motor screws). once the top is removed then remove 3 roller cover screws. replce belt and reassemble in reverse order.

HOW DO I CHANGE THE BELT ON THE FANTOM® THUNDER® AND FURY®? a.gif fantombeltchange1.jpg
fantombeltchange2.jpg
fantombeltchange3.jpg
  1. Unplug the machine.
  2. From the front of the machine, remove the collection bin.
  3. Facing the back of your vacuum, remove each of the Philips head screws located above each of the rear wheels. (Figure 1)
  4. To remove the base cover, place your thumbs in the two screw holes in the back of the machine. Push forward and up on the screw holes to disengage the 3 cover locking tabs. Put the cover off to one side, and go to the front of the machine. (Figure 2)
  5. Check the drive arm for any black streaks which indicate residual rubber from the last belt. The drive arm is located on the right side of the motor. The easiest way to remove any residual rubber is with some nail polish remover on a rag or with steel wool.
  6. To attach a new belt, remove the brush from the base of the machine by pulling up straight up with two hands.
  7. Take the new belt and hook it over the steel drive arm. Pull back on the belt slightly, to create some tension.
  8. Put the brush inside the belt loop so that the track for the belt is aligned with the belt itself.
  9. Replace the brush by aligning the metal end so the points face downward. (Figure 3)
  10. Rotate the brush by hand to check that the belt is running freely and easily in its designated space between the bristle.
  11. Replace the cover by placing the nose in first. Once in place fasten with the two cover screws and then replace the collection bin.

Belt

Hi.

If its not all floors machine just turn the three plastic screws under the machine to unlock .
lift off sole plate remove brush roller fit new belt over brush roller then stretch belt over motor drive shaft.
Replace sole plate turn 3 screws to lock position & thats it.

If your machine has a clutch unit & is all floors type this is more harder to do & will need a lot of explaining so try this site for Dyson Service Manuals.
