Why dose drum spin when furnace is not on?

Just installed honeywell he120 last night unit is mounted on supply plenum and bypass runs to return. the humidistat is about 15inchs from the bypass collar on the return duct. So i turned it on to high like directions say and the drums spins corretly but when the furnace shuts down the drum is still consintly spinning. then when i turn it to low or med the drum does not spin but i can here the humidistat click when i turn it to high. just wondering if this is susposed to be constanly spinning. it not wired to heater but to seperate 24v trans. should i wire it to my heater 24v if it has one?

Usually the unit is mounted to the cold air return (cold or intake air) and the round hose is then attached to the plenum (hot or discharge air). The humidistat is usually mounted just above the unit onto the meta plenum, unless you have a control somewhere else or your main t/stat has that capability built in. Its usually wired in with the furnace 24Vac control (or whatever yours happens to be) so that the unit only comes only when the furnace is on.

How does a humidifier pump stop

if your talking about a humidifier that's connected to a hvac system , there are two basic types , one uses a wheel similar to one a small pet rodent would exercise its self on , but this one is covered with a mesh that holds water, and a motor not a rodent turns it , fresh water is maintained in a dish in bottom of unit by a level activated valve ,it's activated in two methods one by airflow switch (paddle) and another by being connected to blower motor of air handler(electrically)
the other type is nozzle type , these need to be mounted in long straight runs of main duct work not more than ten feet from furnace (heat) these simply have a air flow switch that opens a valve to let house water into nozzle in duct , much smaller than 1st version unit

Steve, have you checked the water collection bucket, to make sure it's installed properly. If it's not, the unit will not start. Remove the bucket and look in the top of the bucket for a float valve. If it's stuck in the up position, jiggle the handle to make it go DOWN. When you reinstall the bucket, be sure that it fits "squarely" in the bucket holder from top to bottom

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have an Aprilaire 1750 installed inline with my upstairs central air system in the attic. The unit's ducting appears to be installed as indicated in the installation manual, but when the unit is running...

Your dehumidifier is likely working correctly. When operating and removing moisture, a dehumidifier will supply warm/hot air to your house. Your dehumidifier moves less air than your A/C, so your supply ductwork in your house is oversized for the dehumidifier. This will lead to uneven feeding of your supply duct branches with just the dehumidifier operating.

Since your dehumidifier is installed in the attic, make sure that the ducting connected to it is well insulated. Also make sure that your dehumidifier cabinet is insulated. These actions will help prevent heat gain from the hot air in your attic.

Is your dehumidifier bringing in fresh air from outside? If the outside air is hot and humid, the dehumidifier will supply warmer air to your home.

Some people run their A/C fans continuously to help with the air distribution, but this is a bad idea since it increases energy usage considerably.

Can most heat pump type air conditioner/furnace have a dehumidifier added to them? We are dealing with very high humidity in our 1100 sq. foot apartment.

Yes, but they are expensive! The unit is mounted into your air handler & a humidistat installed. Walmart dehumindifier a lot cheaper. I use one on my 1600 cuft home real well. You can set humidity level, unit will shutoff at that level. They come with an internal tank & can be plumbed to an external drain. Winter humidity should be @ 49%. Dehumidifiers also create hot air.

How does the unit collect water?

Your fan motor is going out. You can remove the screws from the back cover and gently pry it off. After that, look into the unit and you will see the screws holding the front cover. Take the bucket out and remove the screws at the top. All the screws around the entire metal shroud need to come out. Then with the covers off you can see the fan mount screws. You have to move the evaporator very gently out of the way to get to these screws. Remove the fan motor replace it and re assemble the unit.

Furnace/air cond. blower motor is smoking

I recently installed a horizontal gas furnace. All the electrical and gas supply was done correctly for sure, but upon the trial run, some smoke was coming out the supply lines into the house. I used some flex duct tape to seal all ductwork for air leaks. I also used some inside the first box coming off the heat exchangers to seal the inside of the box for leaks. Could the tape be burning because its to close to the heat exchangers and smoking or is it because its because its brand new and the heat exchanges have to burn a while? Please help
