SOURCE: Don't receive hardly any FM stations

Well I would consult your manual.  Home receivers usually dont have the same amplification factors that a mobile unit does as far as sensitivity.  But for best results make sure that you are using the supplied antenna, and put aluminum foil over it.  This will help amplify the signal.  Also consult the manual as to weather there is a setting for DX or Local.  If there is, make sure that it is not set to local.

SOURCE: i have a sony str-de335 fm stereo receiver and

This can be shorted output transistors (common) or a defective voltage amplifier IC. WIthout taking measurements inside, there is no way for me to make that determination. In any case, this should be a relatively simple repair for a shop that repairs audio gear. Expect a parts cost in the $25-$40 range.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

Bad fm reception

This is probably due to the area your FM antenna is placed. If your house/office is surrounded by buildings, the signal will weaken and fade before it reaches the antenna. Also, if it is surrounded by many walls(i.e. deep inside an office complex), you will have bad reception.

My str de 925 will no lock on a radio station

Insure that the antenna is connected securely on their respective antenna

input, Stations will not lock , if the signal is low.

For FM :

• Wire antenna is applicable if your distance to the nearest FM

is about a km or less, other wise use a VHF TV antenna.

for AM :

• These antenna is directional, you may need to extend the wires

so as to receive AM stations.

No Sound on AM or SW

Hello
If the set receives FM signals without any problem, and only fails to receive AM signals, the IC [integrated circuit] used in it is faulty. The number of the IC used with your radio is CXA 1376AS. It is a replacable type IC, and can be bought from most of the electronic spare part shops at your town. If you want further details about its service manual, get me by Fixya. OK.

Remote control won't work

Could need a new ir sensor or repair solder connections on the display (ir) board. You can check that the remote is putting out a signal by viewing it with a camcorder, turn the camera on look through the viewfinder and point the remote at it push a button. If it is working you will see a flashing light on the remote.
