Question about Garmin GPS Alpha 100 Track and Train Dog Tracker System
I have downloaded updates to the hardware - both GPS and TT10 collar from the Garmin web updater. The Garmin Alpha GPS is working normally - as a compass but it will not receive signal from the collar. I have tried re-pairing the collar to the GPS and the GPS says "successful" but it will not transmit/receive information from the collar. It seems as if the antenna has failed but there is no outward sign of damage or disconnected cable. I have tried running the battery down and recharging. The battery is nor old and accepts the charge and the light flashes normally.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

So what happens when you connect it to the PC?
Make sure no sd cards are installed while you do this.
download and install web updater, run it it gets to a screen where it looks for the gps, plug the usb cable into the GPS (no USB hubs please!!!) Make sure it detects the GPS before you continue. Select the updates you need (don't install all the languages !!) after this is done the program will report the downloads are on the garmin, unplug the unit and it will reboot and whilst rebooting it will install the updates....so don't touch it until it reboots again and displays the regular screen....and make sure the batery is fully charged before you do this...!

I left the Garmin in passive mode and had just the phone do a search for new bluetooth devices and it worked fine. So my advice is , if the Garmin instructions don't work, try this method.

The problem was following the Garmin instructions too closely. What I found via a GPS forum was that some USB cables can be finicky and trying different USB cables may solve the problem. In my case I found I had to turn the nuvi 255W on normally during registration; then connect the USB cable to device and PC. Then the registration and download worked.
The documentation is not clear on this.
Found I had the latest map; but did upgrade my firmware from 5.90 to 6.10.
