I have a LaCie edmini v2 that i found in the trash at work. It seems to work, but i could not connect it in my network since it was locked with a password. Stupidly enough i dident think twice and plugged the harddrive to windows with a sata cable and formated the whole drive. Now it seems that the operating system is all gone. Im pretty handy of myself, but would really need some assistance with this if possible. Could anyone give me a detailed explanation of how i can manage to get the operating system back. Thank you! Regards.

Your best bet is to contact LaCie and request a replacement CD-ROM for the setup utilities and an OS image for the server software. The alternative is to download the USB drivers (which model has an external SATA port?) and roll your own server. Most recent distros of Linux or FreeBSD should support the hardware, if you can figure out what CPU it needs to run on.

Good luck, and try to have fun with it. ;)

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: LaCie 500 GB hard Drive - does not register on my desktop

if it is a USB (or you have low disc space), it does take longer to show up on desktop and patience is required... on my iBook it takes over a minute for my Brick to show up... Whether it is USB or firewire, do try another cord (I had similar problem with my lacie firewire external... I used a different firewire cord and all was fine. If you have tried these already, I hope you find the answer... good luck

SOURCE: My LaCie 500GB external harddrive stopped working

It's the drive's interface. If you open up the case, take the drive out and put it into another caddy, it will work fine. I have had this problem before.

Value of the memory capacitor on the PCB of the LACIE EDmini v2

If the voltage and the farads are higher than the original it won't make any difference what you put in. They are not much greater than 47uf, if you think it's 10uf than put anything above that in. It will really depends on the physical size of the replacement. Get one they same size as the one that's gone and you can't really go wrong.

I owned one just like this and the power supply failed at about 1 year. It turns out it's a fairly common problem. Since you have the device open, does the controlboard/motherboard look burnt at all?
If it is not damaged, you may be able to buy a replacement power supply here: http://www.lacie.com/products/range.htm?id=10030
If it is damanged, then you may still be under manufacturer warranty, contact Lacie here: 503-844-4503 sales@lacie.com

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check. Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4. Let me know if you need further assistance. Just contact www.lacie.com great support. there answer for my drive was to upgrade the drive version and to reboot the drive. Maybe the last thing is enough. For me it worked.

If necessary update driver http://www.lacie.com/nl/support/drivers/driver.htm?id=10156

Follow the procedure below to reset the Network Space to factory defaults:
  1. Move the power switch to the OFF position. Wait for the drive to shut down.
  2. Turn ON the drive.
  3. Within about 3 seconds, flip the switch OFF and On several times.
  4. Immediately turn it ON
If the light flashes quickly, the unit is resetting itself. Attempt to connect to the drive again after about 1 minute using the default username and password (by default, they are both admin.)

sounds like a faulty power circuit within the external housing. remove all screws and the drive from its housing. you now hold in your hand an internal hdd. remove all jumpers, if any are present, and install this drive on the same cable as your master hdd. now when u boot up to my computer window, you will see two hdd named C: and D:

Hard disk replacement for lacie ethernet disk mini 250 gb

I managed to fix mine with a little bit of work.
This website has a readme file that specifies the partitions. You must be using Linux.

http://gpl.nas-central.org/LACIE/ethernet_disk_mini_v2_-_ethernet_big_disk/EDmini_v2_partition_images/Readme

1. Plug the drive in a Linux computer, or use a Linux Live disk.
2. Create all the partitions according to the readme file. Use extended partition for the first "container". Linux Swap for the second partition. Use Ext3 format for the remaining.
3. Extract all the SDA6-8 files with bzip.
4. Use "dd" command to write those images to partitions sda6 - sda8 which you just created with this command: dd if=/dev/home/ubuntu/sda6 of=/dev/sda6 bs=512
5. Substitude /home/ubuntu above for the location where you placed the image files.
6. Once all 3 images have been written, the drive should be good to go. Put it back in the edmini, start it up and see if the website comes up. You may have the "format" the drive from the admin utility once its up and going.

Hope this helps.

use the "dd" command in
