If you haven't already, put in the hard drive. Then start the Xbox and create a (silver account). This will hopefully make it so it will update over the internet.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: to play disc put it in an xbox 360 console.

when this happens, it either symbolizes that somehow, your tsop32 chip has corrupted in your dvd drive and has lost the dvd key, or you (someone) has attempted to flash the firmware on the dvd drive and it has ended in a failure and destroyed the initial firmware. basicly, if you have your dvd key, you can try to reflash the drive with working firmware (tutorials can be found everywhere) or, if you have warrenty left, send it in. if all else fails, find a person who knows how to disassemble an xbox 360 + dvd drive, desolder the tsop32 chip, and rip the firmware. this can be costly though, and you'll need a new dvd drive afterwords if your old one gets broken in the process. and if you can't get the dvd key, well, your 360 is now an expensive dvd player.

best of luck

do you have enough memory left for it to take in more updates? Try clearing some memory from the unit and try again.

When i insert fifa 2012 pirated disc it asked SYSTEM UPDATE. when i click update it started to update.after sometime update stopped and it shows 'SYSTEM UPDATE STOPPED.AND STATUS CODE:--3151-XXXX-XXXX

Probably because its a pirated game, and you are trying to run it off of a modded xbox. Try disabling the mod updating your mod, and 360. Then try playing the game.

Update failed xbox 360

Simply hold down the sync button before turning on the console. Continue to hold the sync button until the console boots to dashboard completely. This will clear any failed updates. If you still have this issue after performing this you will more than likely need to send your console in for repair.

Updating

Some games require you to update before you can play. Most don't require an internet connection. Just let it update and you can then play. Not sure why but microsoft has built in updates in some games.
