I have a problem with blurriness too, when I take the picture it looks like the image is 'running' down, like melting icycles. It's all blurry. I checked to see if the AF-assist beam was in the "on" position, and it is. So that's not the problem. Can anybody help?

No image is captured by the screen itself (LCD screen works but completely dark).

Did you try pressing the display button several times? in both viewing mode and record mode? Cycle through all display modes, s you get used to the button, so it does not trow you off when it happens again.

White lines on image however when capturing on dark areas and on video mode, it produce a perfect image

Not clear when you have white lines. While looking on the screen or really on a image.
Lots of camera's produce lines on the LCD, when using the LCD to frame the picture. Special when there are small and sharp lights in the image. But the sensor is not capturing that while making the picture. It is a sort of smear on the screen.
Also, when you try to make a picture in bright lights, you can get flares, but those you can see on the screen and in the picture. To fight flares, most camera's and lenses come with sun hoods. Your camera does not have a hood, so try to avoid shining bright lights on the front of the lens.

Blurred image

A webcam is first and foremost a camera that uses a lens to gather light reflected by an object. There are a number of reasons why the image captured by the webcam can be blurry, all of which can be remedied.
Supplies from a photography store or hobby shop, along with items that most people already have in their homes, are needed.
The webcam does not need to be disassembled in any way in order to obtain a sharp and clear image.

Launch the webcam's video program by selecting it from the "Start," and the "All Applications" menu.
Aim the webcam towards you so that you can see the blurry image presented in the program's video window.
Rotate the knurled focus ring that surrounds the lens at the front of the webcam until the image is sharp; if there is no focus ring, position the webcam closer or farther from you until the video image is sharp.
Blow off the lens at the front of the webcam with compressed air.
Moisten the end of a cotton swab in photo lens cleaning solution.
Wipe the lens with the moistened end of the swab, beginning at the center and rotating in a circle until you reach the outer edge.
Wipe the lens dry with a lens tissue in the same manner as was just done, to remove the contaminants that caused the blurry image.
Launch the webcam video program that is on the hard drive.
Select the "Advanced" or "Options" tab at the top of the program's main window -- depending on how the program is set up to bring up a settings window.
Reset the "Sharpness" control to 65 percent of the total possible, using a slider control or entering "65" in a text field.
Click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the window, followed by the "OK" button to sharpen the image transmitted by the webcam.

Blurry pictures

Most probably you have incorrectly set your camera to a Camera Record mode other than Auto.

If there is not enough light and you are trying to photograph the scene without flash, (eg. by setting your camera mode to a mode that is programmed not to use flash) then the camera has to compensate for the missing light by keeping its shutter open for a longer period of time so as enough light comes into its sensor.

If your hand shakes during that time, you get blurry images.

Check your camera settings. The Twilight scene mode gives you slower shutter speeds to capture dark, night scenes, but you need to stabilize the camera on a tripod or something, depending on the level of light of the scene you want to photograph. The Twilight Portrait, on the other hand, is the same as Twilight with the addition of flash is used to illuminate a person or foreground subject as well as capturing a night background. This mode also keeps a long shutter time for capturing the night background.

For taking pictures of people, I would suggest you use Auto or Portrait mode where the camera will automatically use fast shutter speeds and flash (if dark).

Hope this helps.

Canon SD1000 display is black while the camera in shot mode

After some inspecting of the camera it seen the issue lies with the lens, not the camera itself so don't go banging the camera up or you might damage some other part and the camera will be broken for real. Inside the lens is a closer which block the internal system from capturing image. The closer look just like the one you see before turning on your camera but it's smaller and it's inside the lens way in the far back. Look carefully and you'll see it - you will see the closer if your screen is black while in capture mode otherwise you will see a nice round glass (the internal lens for capturing image/video).

Think of if like this, imagine an eyeball with its eyelid close. That's what happened when the screen is black while in capturing mode.

HOW TO FIX IT: In order to fix the black screen while in capture mode and cost as little damage to your camera as possible, simply turn on the camera in either picture or video mode and look inside your lens, there should be a closer in the far back end. Gently hit the lens a few times until you don't see the closer no more and only a round glass and your camera should begins capturing image and video again.

Good luck to you all. And remember don't use anger to force your camera to works or you will regret it.
