First I am curious if the task is to identify the mysterious pest or eliminate it? If it is to figure it out then there will be tell tale signs somewhere. If it is an animal and you want to get it out then start by narrowing down what it can and cannot be. Is it a raccoon or squirrel or a mouse or a rat? Are there smells that are unique to the pest? Does it stay in the house or leave and return? If it does and you discover where you can block it or trap it. Is it nocturnal? How determined are you to learn about it? Would you buy an inspection camera? would you use a motion activated camera like a game camera? Or is this an annoyance that is getting worse? Remember you budget... If you think it is their job and you give them carte blanche then this may get really really expensive for things you can figure out and do yourself. If you just want a company that will continue until you find it then tell them cost is no issue...
Thanks qaz, I should have stated I have tiny insects in my home and yard, in which the last 3 pest control companies did nothing to help! Guess I'm at my wits end! I'm looking for a company that will take the sample I've given them and look at them! Not just tell me the little specks are nothing but little specks of dirt! Dirt does not bit, does not bounce off your face, imbed its self in your skin, or invade your kitchen countertops and floor when cooking!
Another way to learn about a pest you have, like an insect is to photograph some and use google searches with images. If you can identify the insect that is making you crazy then you can learn. again from the internet, how to manage, control or irradiate the culprits. Without a name to attach to the bug you don't have a place to start but with a google image search you can put a name to it and then learn all about your enemy,
Search google for "tiny flies invade house" most people say these are fruit flies and there are easy solutions to catching them.http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/07/23/... is a video but reading the comments may be 'fruitful' too!
Boric acid is primarily used for roaches. It works great but since it is a powder the application for flying insects might be a little challenging?
A lot of people keep saying check with companies: If they do not recognize your problem over the phone then they are going to be puzzled too. I would rather use the collective knowledge for free than pay for a someone to take some experiemental steps at my expense. Your mileage may vary...

Any pest company will do that.
