You CAN upgrade the motherboard in any PC, with a few things to consider. As mentioned above, by Techguru2009, be sure that the connections from the board to the peripherals are the same. Also, HP motherboards are 'tattooed', meaning that a new motherboard will not work with the HP OEM version of Windows that sits on your hard drive. You would have to purchase and install a new copy and/or license key.

IDE is legacy hardware 80 pin and SATA is the new Thing small connecter. Next is your RAM. There is Dimm, DDR1, DDR2. Find out what your old system was using, or just buy new memory cards, DDR2 is not that expensive. Ask for the manual first read and check what is required, take a list of what your old computer has. My Pavillion a1010n is stopping at the bios screen on start up. I re-seated the memory. I pressed "F1" on power up and it says "Entering Setup" but, does not advance from there.


try removing your hard disk and boot the system if the process is fast and you can enter the bios setup then probably your hdd needs a service

Replacement CD

If not, you can simply buy a copy of Windows XP and install it fresh.

Removing Hard drive from HP Pavilion a1010n


The drives come out through the front of the case, meaning you have to take the front off.

HP Pavilion a1010n won't start


Make sure there is no dust covering the computer fan. If necessary use the recovery CD or a new Windows XP CD.
