Due to sludge and the water boiling, it's the sound of a dirty boiler. get the system flushed and get the plumber to put some form of inhibitor in the system.

Baxi duotecHEa 40kw combi boiler made loud banging noises for 2 or 3 minutes then stopped. What might have been the problem

the banging is the water boiling/overheating Check the pump is working by undoing the large screw on the front of pump and gently putting a soft stick into the space behind to check that the rotor/impellor is turning. take care to catch the water which drips from the screw hole

Glow worm 45-60 standing boiler making banging noises when in operation

The noise you refer to is called Kettling, it is caused by the hot water in your boiler not being able to leave the boiler quick enough, if the problem developed quickly and your system is a "fully pumped " system this would generally point to your pump either has failed or is on its way out, i.e . your radiators would not heat up as the hot water is stuck in the boiler hence the banging......( if you know where the pump is you can generally feel if it is running by a small vibration ) if you have gravity hot water and pumped heating circuit then I would assume that it is noisy when just doing HW, and the banging is a problem that has gradually got worse it can indicate that the boiler is scaling up (are you in a hard water area). if this is correct there are various additives that can be put in the system to help quieten it down, I suggest you really need a heating engineer to diagnose fully.

Have protherm 100ec boiler british gas has replaced almost every part boiler will fire temp gauge rises to about 55 flame increase in strenght for about 10sec then boiler cuts out also they keep trying...

Any other symptoms? Is the fault apparent only when drawing hot water? Does the boiler re-light later? Alarm messages? F1? F3 for example?
It may well need a powerflush, but it's best to find out before spending big money with BG.....wish I could get away with charging that much for a flush!!!

Its takeing a long time for some of radiators to get hot,and when they do they dont get that hot ,iv flushed the system out, could it be heating by-pass valve in the wrong position

hi there

start by turning off the rads that are geting hot,do the colder rads now get hot? try banging them gentle with a rubber mallet around the valves and across the rad.

If the rads are upstairs and the boiler below it may be the pump is showing signs of giving up.
is the circuit balanced correctley?

Open vent central heating

yes it is possible toupgrade the system to a sealed one using a system boiler as you mentioned. the thing to bear in mind is to upgrade the radiator valves to pressure rated ones 10bar.
The probable cause of the over heating is down to the system being sludged up/cold feed blocked, or possible pump circulating problem?
I would recommend the installation of a magna clean filter to help keep the new boiler clear from system debris.I would definately power flush the system, if the system is a twin two port valve system then a automatic bypass should be fitted, all of this done by a corgi registered gas engineer

Gas boiler

hi sounds as though the system is sludged up & needs power flushing.the reason is that the water cannot circulate so over heats & pumps into the header tank.
expect to pay approx 350 400 pounds to have it properly cleansed, it will restore the system efficiency.
The other area worth considering is that it could be a faulty pump os that when th eboiler fires it cannot circulate so in turn expands & vents into the tank.

My advise is to arrange for a corgi engineer to sort it out for you.

Richie

Combi boiler no DHW

if the boiler fires when the tap is opened then the diverter valve is working ok it must be a blocked plate heat exchanger which is the stainless steel rectangular block inside the boiler connected to the pump and the mains cold water.
it will be blocked on the central heating part probably with black scale. it is possible to clean out but sometimes it is better to just change the plate. but remember to flush the system as well or the same thing will happen.
