Hi I have a W806 Novatronic Premier Plus washing machine. Seriel Number N121/34031023. It has been a great machine, but sounds like the bearings are on the way out as the noise levels are increasing...

Hi Neal
I had similar problems with W806 - first, it is worth fixing and doing yourself as build quality (eg. st.steel parts) is excellent.

Second, the most likely cause of bearing failure is that water has entered into the bearings through failure of the seal. This will have been caused by either unbalanced loads which destroys the dampers which will also need replacing. You may as well clean the motor and replace the bushes whilst you have machine apart.

So, if you are up for it ... turn cold water feed tap to off and disconnect cold water feed hose and the drain hose
Investigating stage:
Open the door. Turn power off and unplug.
Remove top cover (two small screws under small white domed plastic bits on each side. Once you can see inside; if there are signs of brown rusty leaks in and around the rear and possibly all over the belt and motor then that's bearing seal & thus bearings already failed or to to follow - failure for sure ... you can also see if there is any brown water stains on the floor if you move the washing machine as this model does not have a floor pan.

Dismantling:
Remove soap dispenser panel (pull out all the way and depress red clip at the rear)
There are three T9 (?) screws seen at the front panel now that the soap dispenser is out - two are recessed quite deep. Remove the 3 screws and remove the soap dispenser and hoses (TIP worth taking digital pix and making notes as you disassemble - especially electric cables!)

Remove the 3 x 10mm hex bolts behind the door and open the flap at front lower left and unclip the small drain t-piece hose - you should be able to see a spring clip which can be push opened with a large screwdriver. The door panel should then swing open - it will be stiff - as the electric cables behind and the hinge itself have been sitting in their positions for years.

Then, the advantage of taking the whole door panel off is that you can get to all of the things that need dismantling.easier and make moving the whole machine about wherever you are working easier

You will need some sort of padding - an old rug or piece of carpet is excellent - it will be placed between the drum and the side of the washing machine cabinet so that when all of the parts and bolts etc are removed from the drum, you will be able to put the w/machine on its side and then slide the drum out and get to the bearing!

if you take photos and put aside parts and label them - it is an easy job.

I have 3D explosions/general arrangement drawings and tons more details, photos and web pages/prices from suppliers (plenty to choose from - especially German) for the Miele W806 - let me know and I will assemble copies of them all for you - in a PDF or a document of some kind

Disassembly and reassembly of the bearings is tricky but well within your capabilities I'm sure.

How do I change the drum bearings?

The only 100% solution is to replace the whole rear tub half complete with bearings, you may also need to replace the drum shaft as well, because any slight wear on it will lead to premature falure of the bearings.
