Problem with singer 590c. Thread bunches up & breaks or the bobbin thread wont sew. 1 time happened to get everything right & it sewed beautifully.Today I cant get it to pick up the bobbin thread.

Make sure to use a brand new needle.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading.
Unthread and re-thread from the beginning.
Verify the thread path is correct.
Set the upper tension to midway between High & Low numbers.
Verify the bobbin is loaded and threaded correctly in the bobbin case.
Begin sewing slowly and check the result. The upper tension can be tweaked so the upper & bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

If it is still not working properly, the machine may be out of time and require service.

Singer 301a sewing machine does not sew for more than 2 secs...top thread just knots into a huge ball on bottom of fabric...everything is threaded correctly and all tension set well...next step is trash...

Recheck the top thread and bobbin tension for equal balance of thread when sewing. The knotting of thread problem is usually because the tensions are too tight or too loose and/or thread may not be properly threaded. Another reason is when the bobbin thread is wind imbalanced it will cause the thread to knot-up when sewing. This problem is notorious when the bobbin is winded within the bobbin case on some machines. The bobbin thread need to be wind smoothly in the bobbin to avoid this problem.

My stupid singer will not tighten the bobbin thread. i have tried everything ever, and NOTHING is working. tension does nothing. the top thread pulls right out, the bobbin thread isn't pulling down. PLEASE...

Deep breath and start at the beginning, make sure the presser foot is up before you thread the machine, top tension should be about 4 or 5, make sure the thread has gone between the discs, make sure the bobbin is turning anti clockwise in the bobbin case, you should only just be able to pull the thread through with slight resistence, if it is too tight loosen the scew on the bobbin case about a quarter of a turn and test, repeat if you have to, remember that Singer machines do not work well with thread that is not mercerised, if the thread is not being pulled through at all then the chances are the machine will need retiming.

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.
