SOURCE: Sony DAV SA30 dvd player
Hi From the symptoms, you mentioned, ie playing CD's ok., Mpeg decoder chip is faulty. The new one supplied is a modified type. IC207, part no.6-707-406-01. Good luck. Capital98

Check the TV audio output setting. There may be 3 settings for audio output. Fixed/variable/none. Try all of the settings, and see if you get your audio back. If not, try a different cable between the TV and DVD player. I suspect this is a red/white RCA audio cable.

SOURCE: crackling from surrond sound
I have a SONY home theater system, HT-C800DP, there is a crackling sound when playing DVDs - it is almost as if the unit overheats. Is there any solution to this? Sometimes I cannot even finish a DVD as the noise gets very loud.

SOURCE: sony DAV-S300 NO SOUND
Had the same problem. I traced it to the main sound processor chip. This is a large surface mount device. The easiest (and cheapest fix) is to search e-bay for a broken DAV-S300 but with working sound. The one I found has a broken disc tray and was generally scruffy. It was cheaper than buying the chip itself. Then change the main PC Board.

The P.BASS function is only available with 2 channel LPCM sources such as mp3,Divx,cd
and wma. Press P.BASS button and "POWER BASS ON" will be displayed on the screen.
The P.bass does not work with DSP/EQ or DOLBY PRO LOGIC ll modes.
If you press P.BASS in the DSP/EQ mode, the DSP/EQ mode is automatically shut off and the P. BASS function comes on.
The DSP/EQ function is only available in STEREO mode.
Press the PL ii mode button to show STEREO on the display.
This feature works with CDs, MP3-CDs, 2 channel DVD-Audio, DivX and Dolby Digital discs.
When playing a DVD disc encoded with two or more channels, multi-channel mode will be selected automatically and DSP/EQ function does not work.
