Most probably you have the ask toolbar on your system. you must take it out to be able to put google as your home page.

1- click on windows glob and in search type appwiz.cpl it will open the uninstall program and from there remove any reference to the ask tool bar.
2- download avast free anti virus and run it
3- download free malware bytes and run it
4- download Glary tools and run it
5- and then you should be freed by ask toolbar able to add google as home page

prevention : Ask toolbar is usually a program installed via another program. so before clicking next or accept when you install a programe make sure you read why they're asking you to click next or accept. Usually you should just click accept for the terms and conditions. and next is usually for approving in witch folder you want to install. other then that read carefully.

Ask search
[1] Get into the 'control panel' and uninstall the Ask toolbar from it first.
Then re-start the system.
[2] Then 'Control panel > click on network and internet > Change your home page at 'internet options' > type in http://www.google.com/ - at the window.
[3] Press 'Apply' button at the bottom right corner of the display window. That's all. Restart the system. Your internet homepage have tuned for Google. You can type in any URL of the browser here, to make it as home page.
I works on Win-7, and all the above descriptions are give according to it. Win XP too have the same configuration. I don't know, how can this be done with other O/S, like Win-8, Linux etc:

Unable to get Yahoo as home page and Google/ Windows Toolbar
If you're using Internet Explorer, click on "Tools", then "Internet Options". You can set your home page to Yahoo on the first page (save that). On the Programs tab, you'll see Manage Add-Ins. That's where you restore the Google Toolbar. If you're using another browser, go to Google, enter the name of the browser and "set home page".

This solution is for Google Chrome:-

Go to browser's setting, then go to "Open a specific page or set of pages" click on set pages and type there www.google.com. Remove the others websites.

Make google my home page
Dear Chris,

Open 'Control Panel'. Go to the 'Programs and Features' and uninstall everything related to 'Ask' or 'Ask Toolbar'. Then go to you browser and put Google as your home page again.

As we do not know what browser you are using, we can not provide more specific answers. if you are kind enough to tell us what is the browser you commonly use, we can tell you how to add google as your home page.

I am currently ask.com as my default browser, how can i change it to Google?
Go to google.com and then drag the google icon in the address bar to the home page icon(the picture of a house. Or usually on the google home page it asks if you want to make google your home page, click on it and it will change your home page to google.

Navigation within chrome is erratic...random problem when going from one site to another; gmail to home page or within random sites when clicking "next" or "continue" browser page goes...
most of the problems with googe chrome are caused by "Windows Update", Google is working on the issue, but you have to realize that Chrome is competition to Windows internet explorer and windows will do all it can (within legal bounds) to discourage users from switching to google chome,
A couple of things you might do, go back from the last windows update, re-download chrome or ask for update to it. Or you could just wait, Google is aware of the problem and is working quickly to address the issues since they don't want to lose you as a customer/user.

My google mail on my home page isn't loading.
The only few things I can think of are:

1. Cookies - which you say you cleared
2. Delete browsing History
3. Check to ensure you date and time are correct (windows clock, lower right of screen)
