Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I am using a Marantz pmd670. It turns on fine when plugged in but doesn't work with just alkaline batteries. I have tried changing the battery mode to alkaline, readjusting the batteries, etc, but nothing works. I don't know if the backlid missing has anything to do with it but it doesn't turn on.

Hi Brenda Wong, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?

Has the unit ever worked correctly with alkaline batteries? Is the unit still within warranty?

This unit is rented out at school, so I don't necessarily know if it's still within warranty. However, I do know that the unit is expected to work with alkaline batteries, so it must have worked fine using them before.

Ensure the metal contacts on the batteries and on the unit are clean, free of any corrosion or deposits. Check too that the batteries are firmly seated and not loose; they need to make firm contact with the metal contacts. Check page 36 of the manual to make sure that the battery type configuration changes are correctly stored:

Also check to make sure that all 8 batteries are working correctly (using another device). If even one of them is defective, the unit will not work correctly.

Hope this help!

I was looking through some box's and i found this camera. i put in two regular AA batteries and it worked fine, now its not even turning on. I tried changing the batteries.

Always charge batteries before using it for the first time, or if you have not used it for a long period. 3 months is a very long period.
Always charge sets of batteries (2 or 4) together.
Do not use alkaline batteries unless it is absolutely necessary. In some cases, alkaline batteries may have a shorter service life than NiMH. Alkaline battery performance is limited, especially at low temperatures. The use of NiMH batteries is recommended.
Never use manganese (Zinc-Carbon) batteries in electronic devices.
These batteries are only to be used in flash lights.

How can I digitize cassette tapes using the Marantz PMD670?

Take a set of RCA Jack cords (4 jacks) and on the tape recorders "out" jacks attach one pair and on the PMD 670's "In" Jacks attach the other pair. Set the tape a few seconds before where you want to record , set your levels to where you want them, start the recorder then start recording with the PMD.

You may need to test record a few seconds to make sure the recording is at the level you want it to be. Plug in a set of headphones to the PMD and listen in from time to time to make sure it's recording OK.

There you go.

Best,

Dan

PMD660 Handheld Digital Voice Recorder: I have a Marantz PMD 660 digital audio recorder. T...

This implies that there is not enough current going to the device when running on battery (only back-light but no data) whereas running fine on AC means that the device board is most likely in a good operational condition.
I think maybe once a leaked worn battery which left forgotten inside battery compartment damaged the battery terminals or at least the wires connecting these terminals to the main board, i would recommend you to open and check on that.

Your files are probably corrupt. I encounter this problem quite often. You could try to repair with Easy Recovery Professional. I manage to repair my files most of the time

Camera Ready and Flash

I'f your using alkaline AAs, try using rechargeable NiMH batteries or lithium disposables. Alkalines are very poor at supplying the kind of current needed to recharge the flash. I've found other Samsung cameras to be particularly fussy about batteries, and not always consistently so! Good luck.

Sony camera turning itself off...

You can't use regular alkaline batteries in this camera. Alkaline batteries only supply 1.5 volts. The camera uses 2 in series for a total of 3.0 volts from alkaline. However, the camera requires 4.2 volts to operate correctly. This camera has high power requirements, so you'll need high end lithium or nickel hydride batteries that can supply the higher voltage and current this camera requires. It's a power hog, and regular alkaline batteries are too weak to run it. The menus will work on alkaline, but once you try to turn the camera on in capture mode to take a shot, the current requirements to operate the camera motor, LCD, zoom, memory stick, etc, all it once is too great a draw for alkaline to handle. Either use the external power supply, or get Lithium batteries. Make sure the batteries you get are 2.4 volts and not 1.5 volts. Get the ones with the highest current rating you can find.
