Question about Washing Machines
Water can only come from one of three sources: 1) water added via wet clothes between cycles (unlikely), 2) water backing up from the house drain into the tub (again, unlikely unless there is a plumbing problem and the drain hose is clamped - sealed to the house drain), 3) one of the inlet valves is leaking. Assuming number 3 is the source, you can easily determine which valve by pumping out the water and turning off one of the water valves at the wall shut off. In the morning look for water in the tub - if none, you've located the problem. If there's still water then repeat with the other wall shut off valve. In either case the inlet valve assembly (which inlcudes both hot and cold valves) should be replaced. It's just interesting to know which one caused the trouble.

SOURCE: Washer will not drain properly.
The splashing you hear is a liquid thats in the balance ring. This is located at the front edge of the inner tub that you spun by hand. It helps balance the loads. This is normal. The smell is a problem inherent to front loaders. About once a month run hot water wash with a cup of bleach in it, no clothes. Best bet is to leave door open to allow air to dry interior. I removed bulb in mine.

Here is the solution I found that worked for me, there is a small drain hole at the bottom of the boot that is connected to a drain hose. Remove the hose and clean out to make sure that it has not become plagged. replace hose and reattach boot. Mine stoped leaking imediately.

More information about the problem is needed...there are two levels of spinning..."regular" and "Max Extract" The Max setting spins the tub much faster. If you are having trouble with really wet clothes being left in the washer...haven't really been spun at all...this might have a couple of solutions. First, check the "out of balance" switch (a little plastic square with two green wires attached) located at the base of the tub on the front on my stacked unit. Because of the vibration in the tub, the wires on mine have broken twice.right at the switch. The other possibility is the main circuit board. Check out the internet for solutions/replacements.
My washer's Max setting is not working...and I don't know the reason for this...any help? Thanks...

My Maytag Neptune MAH5500B or MAH5500BWW wouldn't spin either. It would go all the way through the wash cycle, agitation and all, as mentioned before, the spin cycle would start at the 9 minute mark, and get down to the 7 minutes then drop directly to 0 with no spin at all.
After hours of investigation it turned out the balance load switch was corroded. This switch is accessible through the front panel of the washer. The door must be removed and the front panel comes off, this switch is directly under the wash drum where there is a little electrical plug and switch which rests on top of stabilizer styrofoam. The connection was being made but there was green corrosion, and evidently the switch box was corroded within. When bypassed, the washer spun perfectly.
Hope this helps someone else out there - I was horrified to think that this washer would end up more landfill as it wouldn't be worthwhile to pay hundreds for a new motor control board as had been suggested was the problem.
