Question about Water Heaters
I have a prothem 100ec boiler fires and temp starts to rise and get between 58 and 60 then for no reason the gas flame increase and boiler over heats and then cuts out when cooled down boiler fires again
It sounds like you have a bad thermocouple. This apparatus senses when the temp is too low and sends an electric signal to turn on the gas to the heater. When it reaches it's preset temperature it sends a electric signal and the gas is turned off. It is best to call a repairman to fix this for a couple of reasons. One, he usually has the thrmocouple with him so you don;t have to wait on a part. Two, you"re messing with gas and if you screw up you can blow up the house and you along with it. Three it is a relatively quick and inexpensive service call, plus if there is anything else wrong he can fix it, save another service call and save you tons on your fuel costs.

I was phoned this morning to tell me that the boiler had stayed on allnight with no fault light . After consulting with the plumber who fitted the system it appears that there might not be a room stat ,

most likely the diverter valve.. when hot tap turned on the movement of the water through the valve operates a diaphragm which pushes a pin/button//switch to tell the boiler to fire up
