SOURCE: Trouble with Maytag Legacy gas Dryer

Please provide the model number and I will see if I can figure something out.
It sounds like you have covered the common problems. Usually a motor is the cause for this problem, it gets hot and shuts down until it cools off. I have had some problems with the auto dry controls on the Maytags also.
Are you equiped to do some voltage checks if we need too? This would help in knowing where you have power when it quits.
Thanks/Mike

SOURCE: Maytag Dryer #MDE4000AYW

Try first unplugging power cord from the appliance, this will drain power from circuits and reset it.

Check the door latch sensor, if that is stuck the door sensor will not let the machine start.

Keep pressed start button for 10 seconds or so, on some dryer this reset the machine.

If it still does not work then there is an internal fault , probably the timer assembly must be replaced.

If you need to call a technician you can use the number listed on the owner manual.

If you want to do it yourself, test the timer control, then if it is faulty replace it.

You find replacement here.

SOURCE: Replacing Timer on Maytag Atlantis Dryer

Call a local appliance shop and ask about it. Maytag is pretty common and available. The timer will be about 75 dollars. It could be more depending on what all you have on it. It is pretty easy to replace once you get to it. Let me know how this turns out.

SOURCE: Have a kenmore series 70 dryer. Won't shut off

Yes it deffinetley sounds like you may have a timer issue, if your timer stops and the dryer is running, or if the timer keeps going around and around this will be the problem, however there are thermostats inside the dryer and if you have it set on a HEAT and not a TIMED setting the thermostats won't advance the timer because they havent been set.Hope this helps

Thanks.

Maytag MED5700TQ occasionally completely shuts down during cool down mode

Sure!
You may have a bad timer, that is turning off the electricity to the motor while the heater is still energized.

Long time ago, dryers had about 3 "automatic shut-off's" two on the heating element, and one on the motor.
Because of the lint that comes with drying clothes, fire is always a danger.
Today, the "thermostat shut-off's" are up to 5, 6, or 7 on some models!
Sounds like your dryer is getting hot enough to trip one of these. When the whole machine cools down, the thermostat resets, and the machine starts again.'
I had a dryer do the same thing. The problem with that one was nothing more than dust and lint in the motor, and all I had to do was vacuum out or blow out the motor about once or twice a year.
Be blessed

The dryer is not heating up and the dial stops at the cool down so the dryer will not shut off by it self. Its a kenmore 70 series dryer.

you need to send the model number, open the door and look around the opening where you put the clothes into the dryer and you'll see the tag with the model number.it will start with 110. or 417.because you have no heat that's why the timer won't advance, when the heat shuts down then the timer advances when the heat comes back on the timer stops moving or advancing,no heat the timer won't move.send the model number

My Frigidaire electric dryer GLER341AS2. The

Does it shut down completely? If it does, and the timer ceases turning, your problem may be a blocked vent pipe or Lint buildup.Your high limit switch is designed to kill power to your heater coils and sometimes the motor in case of overheat.

Kenmore 90 series gas dryer

The trouble is actually with the start bearings in the drive motor,I bet you have a small hummmm or GRRRRR right at the start, as if the unit wants to hesitate.
Anytime you have a dryer that starts then shutsoff and must "cool" down, it is the motor.

Good luck!

Sensor dry timer problem

Clean off the moisture sensor bars. They are the silver curved strips about 4 inches long inside the drum near the lint fitler. If you use fabric softner sheets, a waxy build up will coat the bars. The dyer can no longer sense the damp clothes, so it goes into the cool down and then shuts off. Time dry bypasses the moisture sensor.
