1st I see you posted this question in the Printers area. You should not plug printers, particularly Laser Printers, into a UPS. Surge suppressor is fine just not the battery backup. Depending on the age of the APC, you may need to replace the batteries. You may also try turning off the entire unit then pressing the reset and turning it back on.

Continous whine sound on APC Surge Protector 600

Hello Glen,

Yes, The batteries in UPS systems have a 2.5 to 3 year life span so your unit does need new batteries. The whine is usually caused by the charge circuit trying to push the charge to the damaged cells in the battery. You should be able to get replacement batteries from your local battery dealer, no need to order "special" UPS batteries. Open your UPS cover and remove the old battery and bring it to the dealer and they will match it to their stock.

It is probably a bad battery. They usually don't last much longer than 2-3 years. You could try replacing the battery, but I would suggest just replacing the whole UPS with a new model.

I want to use the apc 650 pro to run on my 900 watt generator.I will be pulling about 400 watts, will this smooth out the voltage from my generator to my radio? Is there anything I must do to use the apc in...

the battery back-up will smooth out the voltage, You will definitely need a battery in or else it will beep nonstop and drive you batty! the APC should have surge protected outlets already built into it. And since you will be using it outside of a computer environment, im guessing on a worksite, there will be nothing extra you need to do besides plugging it in. I would suggest plugging it into a stable voltage for the first hour or so to allow it to charge the battery.

APC Back-UPS ES 500: green light flashes&continuous warning tone

On this unit, the likely culprit is the battery and that it needs to be replaced.

With that, you may want to think about the pros and cons of replacement versus buying an entirely new unit.

This unit is a relatively low end ups and the surge supression uses MOVs that wear out with repeated absorption of energetic spikes. That's why the better (and higher cost) UPSs and surge suppressors don't use them. They're not really that good anyway due to their relatively high transient impedance. The better equipment uses a "transorb" -- basically a back-to-back high voltage zener diode optimized for low breakover impedance and high instantaneous power capability. Unless the transient exceeds the design parameters of the circuit, these do not wear out and do not degrade. That being said, I will assume that you would likely replace this unit with a similar one.
The flashing may not be the battery at all and may be the charging circuitry, thus your new battery may not live very long (half the life that you would expect.

Many batteries out there are refurbs and have issues as all used parts do.

If you contact APC, they will likely give you a 35% discount on purchasing a new product.

The difference in price in the battery replacement vs. ups replacement at this level may only be a few dollars more.

I promise that I am not a UPS salesman, I just deal with many on a daily basis; therefore I am giving my two cents to try to thelp you avoid problems a year from now.

Apc surge protector and battery backups

you have to have the power rating rated in amps of the bed...if the rating of your bed and the system are same or even less than that..(i.e. the rating of television is less than that of computer monitor,so u can connect tv for long time than monitor when power goes off ) then u can surely use it.....but it ll provide the supply only till the back up is stored in the battery, when the power goes off
