Question about Ovens

1 Answer

The interior bulb blew in my oven causing a huge bang and now the oven no longer heats up. The clock and timer still function, so the fuse did not blow, but the fan does not turn or heat. In the first instance I replaced the bulb, but it does not not light up the interior. What part needs replacing to get heat and get the inner light going?

The huge bang would indicate a major issue! Sounds serious, get an engineer out to test it!

The center clock-oven module no longer lights up and the oven doesn't work, but the burners on top work. model rf341bxk. The oven light still works. Is there a fuse blown that I can replace?

Hello, welcome to fixya.

Unfortunately many modern ranges do not incorporate fuses into the control panels, other than the 15amp outlets used for plugging in external devices, they are typically the resettable type fuse.

Many manufactures have gone away from the typically glass fuse style circuit interrupters of previous ranges of say 15-20yrs ago and older.

If the clock display is not illuminated nor functioning, but the surface element functions appear fine, it is likely a fault within the clock ( also referred to as a timer or erc ) itself. Check for possible burnt or loose wires going into the timer such as L1 or L2 etc.

**Please unplug the range or turn off the 40amp breaker at your homes service panel before attempting any service to the range**

The part for the timer/clock is # 3196967 and retails for between $167 to $233 at "searspartsdirect.com" and "repairclinic.com" respectively as I type this on June 6/2010.

Hope this info was helpful to you...even if it isn't great news. Please take a moment and rate the info I provided and thanks for visiting "fixya".

Hi I am Vortash it sounds to me as if the oven element has blown you need to have it tested by an engineer .. he will check for continuity .. if it is open circuit then you will need to replace it .
I would hev thought that if the fuse had gone the oven would have no light or functions of any kind as the power would be off .. unless this model has an extra fuse fopr the element alone doubtful however it does have a heat sensor cut off above the oven that cuts off the element from the supply .. If you have no manual for this unit you will find one free to download from http://www.safemanuals.com .. regards Vortash

Fuse location

are you talking about the breakers that are outside or in the garage? Look where the main power goes into the building and there is where the breaker for the oven should be.

OVEN WON'T HEAT

You have a thermal cutout, usually, behind the back access panel, which is known to cause this problem. It may or may not be resettable but I recommend replacement either way.

It appears that the timer has gone faulty, possibly because of a short in the bulb holder, which probably explains why there is no display and the main oven not working. the top will still work as it is not controlled by the timer.
the solution hear would to be fit a new timer.

assume a fan oven.does fan turn and oven light come on? if so problem is the circular element. if no fan and no oven light, then clock probably needs setting - this will be in instruction book. clocks sometimes go wrong but not often. if clock is faulty, a cheap repair is to bypass the clock so auto function no longer works
