Testimonial: "I've already tried that. The thing is if I keep on starting eventually I get a bright screen and it will remain until I shut down or restart."

Screen is dim when power not plugged in

In power settings you will find the dim adjust, Your laptop has power settings you can adjust to your preference. That said, the default settings are usually set to a power saving that means when you unplug your laptop from th AC source your laptop will dim to the power savings settings and prolong battery life. Look in power settings by right clicking the power icon in the taskbar notification area and open the power options. There are many options to choose from I use High Preformance, but on battery it shorten battery life. If you need assistance just respond to this solution.

My laptop has a dim screen.. It turns on with normal coloring but once my laptop is fully on it dims. How do I fix this?

Check the setting in the Power Options for the display. It sounds like the power savings setting is very short and needs to be changed.
Click Start>Control Panel>Power Options
Let me know if this solves the problem. Thanks.

I turn on my laptop and it's dim. I press the FN

This is a Function of the laptop, you need to adjust your Power Settings. See the PC, does that to save Battery power, it will always be brighter, generally, on the Wall supply. You may need to set up a profile for both.

Screen dims on the HP Compac nc6400 when on battery.

Hello Artemis,

My name is ArmyMason and I think I can help you with this. Their is two different ways of getting around this issue. One is turning up the back light via your keyboard. Their should be a blue picture of a sun with an arrow pointing up, mine is on the F10 key. Hold down the FN key and tap the up sun key until you get the desired brightness. The other solution is take the computer out of laptop mode. You can do this by right clicking on your desktop and choose properties. Click the Screen saver tab and then click the Power Button. Change the power scheme to Home/Office Desk and click Apply. Now when you are on battery power your computer sceen shouldn't dim and your processor should also run at full speed if you choosed to do the second option.

Thanks,
ArmyMason

Display brightness

Ok on your keyboard there should be some way to adjust the brightness just plug in the laptop and adjust it to what you want then unplug the laptop and adjust it to what you want and it should keep that setting. if that does not work you can check the bios settings some laptop bios' have a brightness option.

Screen is dim

Try looking for a function key (usually used by holding down the Fn key and then pressing one of the "F" key at the top) the key will be marked with a brightness indicator.

Is your screen only dim when running off the battery is it dim when running when the charger is plugged in as well. If it is only dim when the laptop is running on battery then this may be caused by a setting in Power Options which is located in Control Panel (that is if your running Windows). In Power Options look for settings about running on AC Power and running on Battery power.
