SOURCE: For some reason my camera keeps comming up with a "REMOVE LENS CAP AND PRESS > BUTTON" error but the lens cap isn't on the camera :(

I dropped my FZ8 and had the same problem. Unfortuately, trying to push the lends back into place did not work, so I disassembled the camera using the instructables link and the comments there. Now the camera works fine thanks to everyone's help.

It makes sense to try to get the lens to work without taking the camera apart, however, it is best not to use too much force because you could damage the cogs that move the lens. I tried that first and used quite a bit of pressure and the cogs weren't damaged at all.

In my case, however, I don't think there is anyway I could have gotten the lens unjammed without taking the camera apart.

SOURCE: Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

SOURCE: ERROR REMOVE CAP LENS

I had the same problem with mine after I dropped my camera when it was opening up after turning on. It feel directly on the lens and ever sense has told be to remove the lens cap.

I’ve disassembled the camera and discovered that the zoom motor drive assembly has a small set of plastic gears inside that are quite fragile and like mine are easily broken. You’ll find the zoom motor after taking the back assembly of the camera off. It’s located on the bottom left side of the lens assembly if you're looking at the camera as if you were taking a shot.

Here’s the part no. from the Panasonic support web site.....

SOURCE: Lens error, restart camera

Try to unstick the lens by gently pushing it in or pulling it out a little bit. IF that fails, the gears are too misaligned to repair it without opening it.

If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that replace them such as camera lens repairs.

If you want to do it yourself, there are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

How can I repair the lens error message on my Nikon Coolpix S6800 camera?

Copied from Nikon's Service & Support Page:

Having a "Lens error" message display on the camera's LCD display indicates a problem with the camera lens mechanism. This situation generally requires that the camera be sent to a Nikon Service Department for repair. Before doing this however, be sure to check these situations below:
  1. One possible reason for this error is if the camera is switched on and the lens unit is prevented from extending. The camera will struggle for a second to extend the lens, then report the problem. Inspect the lens for any obvious obstruction, then turn the camera off, then on again. Usually, simply switching the camera Off then On again is enough to correct this problem.
  2. Remove and recharge the battery. Retest.
If this does not help, then we regret the camera must be sent to our Nikon Service department as there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do everything we can to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible.

When I turn on my camera it has a little yellow camera with an exclamation point. It say's to turn camera off, remove the lens cap or obstruction and turn camera on.The lens is off and no obsrtuctions

The camera sensor must have detected an obstruction, or at least the logic board did not get the message the lens is in its working position. Could be, because it is really not in the correct place, but also there could be something wrong with the detection logic. In both situations, the best you can do is resetting the camera, by removing the battery and memory card for a few moments. (while yu have the battery and memory card out, please check is all contacts on the battery and memory card are clean and shiny) and then reinsert both. Switch the camera on again. When the error returns, I suggest you contact a Fuji certified repair centre, or start saving for a new camera.

My cannon finepix S4200 camera wont zoom in or out I also get message "turn of camera and remove lens cap or obstruction from lens" but no lens cap fitted and there doesnt appear to be any obstruction...

The sensor or logic board in the camera must be fooled, or one of them is defect.
When removing and reinserting the battery does not change this, contact a Canon certified repair centre and ask what it will cost to repair this error. Then decide if you want to spend that money for repair or as a start for a new camera.

What is the Meaning of turn the camera off remove the lens cap and turn the camera on'

Really it means what it says.
Switch of the camera, and switching it on again, will reset the program, like a cold boot from a computer. Perhaps the camera could not move the lens barrel and as a precaution it gave this warning. When you removed the lens cap, please check there is no mechanical obstruction on the lens. Then switch on again. When the error keeps coming back you should ask advice to a Nikon certified crevice centre close to you.

Fuji finepix

When a camera notice the lens does not move, it is afraid to damage gears or the motor, of it powers down everything involved the lens. It then gives a message as you read.
Because the camera can't know what is casing this, it only can warn.
It "hopes" if it did run the lens to an obstruction, powering it down will relieve the tension. That is way it says power down.
Remove the battery, check the lens barrel if any obstruction is limiting the free movement of the lens. and then replace the battery. switch it on again.
If you accidentally touched the lens, while it was coming out, it could have given the same error. When after switching on the camera, and you are sure you don't obstruct the free movement of the lens barrel, but it comes back with the same error, you should contact a certified repair centre for your camera.

Lens obstructed- rem lens cap error kodak z990

"Lens obstructed, remove lens cap." This is the message the camera states. My camera does the same thing. It is refurbished. The camera was only used a couple of times and the problem started just as the 90 day warranty ran out. I suspect this is a common problem and these cameras should have been thrown away instead of selling them. It seems that it is not a " stuck lens problem".It seems to be an electronic problem rather then a mechanical one. Has anyone fixed this issue? Has anyone contacted Kodak for a price?

Kodak digital camera z990 lens obstructed remove lens cap

It seems that many people think that sending a camera back to the manufacturer is helpful. Most of us want help to fix it ourselves. If it is under warranty most know enough to send it back. If it is out of warranty the repair cost for most problems is more then it cost to replace it.

When turn camera on get message turn camera off then turn camera on again. did that and repeatedly get same message.

Check to see if your lens cap is on. If the cap is on, the lens cannot extend and you will get that message. If your lens cap is off, check to see if there is something impeding the lens and keeping it from extending. Your camera may "think" the lens cap needs to be removed.

Lens error nikon coolpix 4300

This error occurs if camera is turned on before lens cap is removed. If you are removing the lens cap before turning the camera on and still getting this message, camera should be serviced by a qualified technician.
