Try compressed air first, if that doesn't work you will probably just have to get a new keyboard. Most keyboards cannot be fixed or repaired by the user.

SOURCE: Delete key, dash key and six key does not work

Usually this is due to a hardware problem with the keyboard. 98% of the time by replacing the keyboard you'll fix the problem.

You could also try reinserting the data cable from the keyboard to the motherboard.

It can sometimes get a tiny tiny bit loose and cause problems like this.

Be VERY careful when you remove the plastic tab that holds the keyboard data cable in place. They are EXTREMELY easy to damage.

I know I've messed up plenty myself

:-P

Best of luck!

are you sure that the key is seated properly on the board? This can easily be fixed by popping it off and checking to see if the 1, or 2, plastic like springs are connect to the key and the board.

SOURCE: some key of my sony

if this just happened, it may have to turn off the laptop, remove the battery and adapter, then press and hold the power button for about 10 secs to discharge residual power, then reconnect the power sources and test the keyboard again. If this did not work, confirm if an external keyboard is working. If no issues with an external keyboard, you may try to remove and reconnect the keyboard cable connection to the motherboard, make sure none of the keys are stuck, and if nothing works, you may have to get a replacement for it.

Did you spill a liquid on the keyboard? Maybe the keyboard has been hijacked by a virus?

Try booting in Safe Mode and see if the key works.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal.
If the key works in safe mode then more than likely you have a virus or infection. Take the steps above to boot into safe mode, only this time when you see the Safe Mode option screen, select Safe Mode With Networking (this will give you internet connectivity). Open your internet browser then download and install MalwareBytes.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download and install malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

If the key still does not work, then more than likely the keyboard might be going bad or the keyboard needs to be reseated (taken aloose from the laptop and remove the cable from the back then put it back in). However, most times when the cable needs to be reseated more than one key is affected.

You can always use a Virtual Keyboard to point and click on the Delete Key when you need it.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "download.cnet.com" (without the quotes). Click the link to go to the site and look on the left side when the site opens up and you will see a gray area that says FIND SOFTWARE. In the white search box under Find Software type: "Virtual Keyboard" (without the quotes) and click the mirror to search. When the search results come back look for FREE VIRTUAL KEYBOARD. Download and Install it. It's totally FREE. Also uncheck anything that pops up other than the license agreement during the download and installation. You only want the Free Keyboard and not the other junk.

You can use it to solve your keyboard problem. Just open up whatever it is you want to type on such as the web address in an browser, a word document, etc., then open the Free Virtual Keyboard and it will sit on top of whatever you were doing. You can move it around so that it is not in your way also.

USING INSERT KEY ON ASUS LAPTOP. KEY SAYS DELETE AND INSERT BELOW IT. IT WON'T WORK.

The problem with the Insert key is that people press it twice, just to make sure it was pressed. It is a toggle key, so first press allows Insert, and the second press turns it off.

The Insert key allows you to type in a line of text deleting the character that is in front of it as the new characters go in.

The Delete key just deletes anything in front of it, or any file or folder highlighted at the time.

2 keys of hp laptop keyboard not working

If you find that some important keys are not working on your notebook keyboard, they can be difficult or, more often, impossible to fix. The best solution is naturally to have the keyboard replaced. This is a big enough job on a laptop as the machine has to be taken apart to replace the keyboard.

Another solution I reccommend is to REMAP that keys that do not work. Using a small program you can tell your computer to use another key instead of the key that does not work. In this way you can take, for example, an important key like the "delete" key, and remap it to an unimportant key, like the "Alt Gr" key. Then pressing Alt Gr will perform the delete function. This is really a temporary solution but if you can live with it, then by all means use it permanently.

The best program for this process is called SHARP KEYS and is free to use. It can be downloaded here: http://sharpkeys.codeplex.com/

Delete key's not working...what should i do?

Replacement keyboards are not too expensive, and some are easy to replace. A computer shop can price it for you, whichever way you want to go. The keyboard is obviously defective, there's no fix. I'm waiting for one online as we speak.

Delete button keys not working laptop

Unlikely, good diagnosis though. You don't have much option there: Try a keyboard attached to it to see if that same key on the external keyboard works. If yes it means you will neeed to replace your laptop keyboard.
If it doesn't try to uninstall the keyboard driver and restart. keep your spare usb keyboard just in case, reinstall the driver from samsung support and download website if necessary.

Cheers

Delete Key Not Working

There's a couple of things you could try. First, try removing the key using this method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpwzUlJtVso make sure you turn the laptop off first.
Then clean underneath it with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Let it dry and replace the key. If that doesn't work, you may need a new keyboard. You can purchase and replace it yourself if you're up to it. Search iFixit.com for the tutorial on how to replace the keyboard for your specific model.

The delete problem you described sounds application specific. For example in Windows Explorer, if you just click on the Delete key, you will only send the deleted object into the Recycle Bin where it can be restored if required. If you want to really delete an item, you click on Shift-Delete key.

Therefore, to answer your question, yes it should be possible to hit just the Delete key but for certain applications like Windows explorer, you will not really be deleting the item you selected.
