SOURCE: Failed to detect an internet connection

if you are having problems with your Linksys routers, reset the router and configure it again. In configuring the router, I suggest that you use the online tool that will automatically configure your router. It is similar with the setup cd but the online tool works better. The reason why the setup cd fails is that it has its own bugs. So just use the online tool. You can get the online tool on this website--www.linksys.com/easy.

SOURCE: Experiencing error when connecting to wireless router

I've had this happen before when using a USB wireless device. Is the wireless on your system built in? Or do you connect it to a USB port? The external devices sometimes try to use their own software to configure wireless so you can shut it off and just use the Windows wireless tool. I assume you setup the wireless with a security key and entered that key into your system to try and connect? Let me know if any of that helps and rate the solution if it does!

SOURCE: Wireless connectivity b/t Netgear router & Motorola cable modem

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try: 1. Check physical connections. a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet ?i? LED on the front of the router should light up. b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up. 2. Access the router's web-based utility. a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key. c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password". Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default. To reset the router: a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds. b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. 3. Configure the router. Since your Internet Service Provider is using a cable connection, please follow the steps below: a. Click on Basic Settings under Setup tab. b. Select No for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?. c. Scroll down on the center page and look for the Router MAC Address section. Set it to Use computer MAC address and click on the Apply button. 4. Configure the wireless settings. a. Click on the Wireless Settings under Setup. b. Change the SSID to any unique name. c. Scroll down, look for the Security Options settings and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy). d. Set the Authentication type to "Automatic" and the Encryption Strength to "64bit". e. Leave the Passphrase field blank, select Key 1 and enter a 10-digit number. Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection. f. Click Apply button to save the changes. g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle. 5. Power cycle. a. Power off the modem, router and computers. b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking. c. Power back the router and the computers. Check if it will be able to get online. If you have wireless computers, you can connect them wireless to the router. Kindly follow the instructions below: 6. Connect wireless computer to the router. If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 1, please follow the steps below: a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. b. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks. c. Click on the Advanced tab. d. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK. e. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Network. Please select your network and click on Connect. It will ask you for the network key. f. Please type in the network key and then confirm it. Network key is the password you type on the key 1 of the wireless settings of the router. g. Where do I fine SSID Name & Encryption Key

If you are trying to set up a router and need to establish the SSID name and WPA encryption key, you will need to sign into the router using the routers IP address. Input the userid and password, then go to the wireless network setup page. Here is where you enable wireless operation, establish the SSID, and generate the encryption key or passphrase.

If you are trying to connect to someone else's wireless network, you need to know their SSID so that when you do a search for available networks you can determine which is theirs. Once that is established, if they give you the encryption key or passphrase, you can attempt to connect to their network. With the encryption key or passphrase, you will not be able to connect.

Do you have a Tivo Premier and are you experiencing wireless communication...

Recenty, I discovered that devices were dropping off of my wireless network (Netgear N300 wireless N with DSL modem). After trial and error, the solution to the wireless communication problems was to create a wireless N bridge using the Tivo Wireless N adapters.

To use this feature, you will need two Tivo wireless N adapters. One wireless N adapter should be set to bridge and plugged into an available ethernet port into your router. The second adapter should be set to client and plugged into the ethernet port in the back of the Tivo Premier. Once the power has been applied to both wireless adapters and the Wireless adapter (connected to the router) has connected to an available address on your router, press and hold the button (on top of each adapter) to establish a secure wireless connection between both adapters.

Once each adapter has established communication, you will have a separate 5Ghz Wi Fi signal (as well as a channel )dedicated to you Tivo devices throughout the house. Each Tivo Premier added to the house should have the wireless N adapter and connected using the secure connection to the wireless bridge by pressing the button on each adapter (the one on the router as well as the one on the Tivo to install).

If sucessfully installed, you should be able to connect to all Tivos on the network for management as well as streaming. If communication between the Tivos isn't successful, you will have to restart each Tivo and establish a new connection to the Tivo service.

Another suggestion when using the wireless N adapters is to setup a static IP address on each Tivo that is higher than the IP address assigned to the wireless adapter. Each Tivo utilized two IP addresses for each device (one for the adapter and one for the Tivo). You may have to check the router administration screen to determine the IP addresses used for the wireless adapters before establishing a static IP address for the Tivos. If you assign static IP addresses to each Tivo, you will have to restart each Tivo and reconnect them to the Tivo service to establish proper network mapping.

With this wireless network configuration, you will ensure that your Tivos are connected to the service using high speed, dedicated wireless N communication for streaming purposes between the services offered while not impacting other computers, servers, video game machines, and tablets that are connected into your house.

Since the Roamio uses a built in wireless adapter, you may not have success in adding a Roamio to the wireless bridge created on your router unless you disable the built in wireless adapter and purchase the external wireless N model from Tivo.

Instructions on setting up wireless bridge can be found at this location:

How do i fix EHRPD 4 unable to establish wireless data connection

Do you try to use one of your own wireless routers? If not, I know what is wrong. You should install a wireless router yourself.
If you have a wireless router, you are the one to setup the security and you have to know how to log in to the router. Because you chose the login name and the password in the first place.

My wireless connections will not work! last night both lap tops and my daughters zip it were unable to establish a wireless connection. It happened once before about a month ago and were able to...

OK, to clarify.
Ethernet = modem?
Wireless box = router?
Do you have hardwire connection to router?
Check the wireless settings in router with hardwire connection.
Most routers use random channel search for wireless.
I usually set this for to use one channel only.
Stops random interference and connections.
FYI: Most routers are on 2.4ghz - same as cordless phones and some hand radios - the frequencies over lap sometimes - even though they aren't supposed to.
Microwaves will also disrupt signals.

Attempting to connect WGT624 V4 as a wireless bridge to connect to my 2 wire qwest dsl modem to connect tv components to internet along with Xbox 360

To establish the bridge connection, make sure to write down the Wireless MAC Address of the 2wire first. Now login to your Netgear router's setup page and go to the wireless bridge settings. Manually type there the Wireless MAC Address of the two wire. Make sure to enter the same SSID, same Channel and same Wireless Security Key to successfully establish the wireless bridging. Save your settings after that and reboot the router.
